donald denounced a bill that he had not seen and his lapdogs are making fellow republicans' heads spin
Because it's such a crisis for our country it'd be better to wait and roll the dice on Trump being elected along with enough Republicans in both chambers to really fix our immigration and border problem. So let's allow the problem to fester for at least another year.

lol.

In early 2018 a unified Republican government was all for offering a path to citizenship for "the Dreamers". The only question was how?
The offer was a path to citizenship for the daca aliens in exchange for money to build a wall.

And Democrats rejected the offer.

Because the most important thing for Democrats is to keep the flow of illegals going.

“I've always [been] kind of worried about that, that [Trump] was going to give the Democrats far more than really was warranted in exchange for the wall. Because more border barriers, like I said, they're important. But there are other things that are more important, things like plugging loopholes in our asylum laws, E-Verify and what have you.”

In other words, The Wall is a totem of Trumpism"

"...it would toughen the standard to qualify for asylum and provide massive new resources for border cops and for processing asylum-seekers faster, including speeding the removal of those who don’t qualify. It would give presidents an entirely new authority to shut down asylum-seeking when border encounters hit certain thresholds.

These aren’t simply Republican-friendly proposals. Lankford pointed out that many of those are resources and authorities that Trump himself urged Congress to give him as president. If Trump gets elected again, Lankford said, he would enjoy authorities that “he’d actually asked for.”

Opinion | How corporate liberalism is changing both parties - The Washington Post

September 3, 2023

"It’s not your imagination: Business, especially big business, is more liberal than it used to be, and Democrats are now more comfortable than Republicans with corporate engagement in politics. That’s the takeaway from an academic survey of business leaders and the public described in a pair of papers published last month. “The decoupling of business from the Republican coalition,” write researchers Eitan Hersh of Tufts University and Sarang Shah of the University of California at Berkeley, “represents one of the most significant changes in American politics in decades.”
