That was the whole point. We got our way with telling them to not fight amongst each other and hey-by-the-way-use-our-system-of-trade-and-economic-growth and we'll do the heavier lifting of security. We got to put missile defense systems and military bases in countries that never would have agreed to that kind of thing before 1945.

Conservatives used to love NATO for good reason. We got to throw our muscle around in exchange for PEACE IN EUROPE which I'm sure you know from your studies of history was a rare thing.

Peace means lots of trade. Lots of trade means prosperity. Lots of prosperity means a more contended people. Lots of contented people means... more peace and trade... but it also means we tend to take for granted what all these systems like NATO brought us.

I'm sad to see people turn their backs slowly but surely on NATO as more MAGA leadership openly rag on it.

I agree with a lot of what you said. But there is such a thing as balance of trade. Our symbiotic relationship with these countries has gotten out of balance. Maintaining the status quo means further deterioration of our middle class. That's what Trump is trying to address. Because our leaders haven't been responsible with their spending, and because of the trade imbalances, we as a nation can no longer afford to be everyone's protector or continue to be Uncle Sugar. The ones who got wealthy with the status quo are now the ones screaming the loudest. Instead of passing the buck we finally got a leader who is willing to address the problem head on. Whether you like it or not this has to happen.

Pretending that if we just back off from helping our ally and that all deaths from fighting will end is the most naive thing I've ever heard.

Threatening NATO with backing away from our commitments won't bring peace and stability and it won't save lives. It helps despots like Putin.

Seems like the Trumpers would be content with Russia becoming the Soviet Union again. If Ukraine is conquered and under control of Russia they likely would be an ally for Russia and enemy to Europe. That's the goal here for Putin.

Ukraine is not our ally there are our dependent.
