He may actually have a point. In the 18th century, a lot of the news and opinion of the day came from what was called The Pampleteer. This approach of opinion and information distribution was very diverse and very de-centralized. Our concept of "freedom of the press" was shaped a lot by the idea of protecting the pampleteer and his printing PRESS who interesting enough if with us today would be labeled a crank and alt-media if not fake news.
