How did that work out for you when you ran? Let me guess.

I ran for shop steward.

There were 14 people running.

It was just after the strike.

Most wanted the job so they wouldn't have to pay union dues anymore.

I had only about 10 years with the company, at that time, I had the least seniority of all the candidates.

I didn't win.

The guy who did, quit 2 years later because he found out how much work it really was.

They appointed his replacement.

We haven't had a shop steward election since I ran.
