A man was recovering after being shot in the buttocks by his dog on a duck-hunting trip in Utah, USA, the Deseret News reported. The unidentified 46-year-old was hunting with his friend in a canoe at the north end of the Great Salt Lake on Sunday morning when he got out of the boat to place duck decoys, leaving his 12-gauge shotgun behind, said Box Elder County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Kevin Potter.
A dog traveling in the boat with the men jumped up and stepped on the gun, causing it to fire into the victim 10 feet (3m) away, Potter said, adding that medical crews later removed 27 birdshot pellets from his buttocks.
"[The dog] did something to make the gun discharge," Potter told the News. "I don't know if the safety device was on. It's not impossible the dog could have taken it off safety."
