I think about this a lot while I’m driving around and going into different places and business. I started doing this right after I graduated college and have been at it for about 5 years. I kind of regret not gaining any real skills. Don’t get me wrong I know this is a very good job but if I ever found myself in need of another job I wouldn’t know where to look. What would you guys be doing if it wasn’t for UPS?

I also think about this, just about every day in one way or another. I make a good living here but... what if? People are fired here all the time for things with and without their control. We spend so much time here that unless you have other hard skillsets coming into this job it's hard to find the time and energy left at the end of the week to develop them as a backup.
Save your money. Have a healthy emergency fund. Necessity is the mother of invention. If it becomes necessary to develop another skillset outside of driving for this company then you'll have that ready to deploy. That's the thing I rely on at this point. Beyond that I just try not to do things that'll expose me to termination.

Claims from management that they caused or were involved in accidents that the driver disputes, for example.

Haven’t really seen anyone lose their job for just a claim for management without some serious evidence. Matter fact, I’ve seen the majority of people who’ve had an unreported accident get their jobs back…… eventually I suppose it depends on the strength of your local union.
I would say this job is very difficult to get fired from unless you’re doing things you absolutely should not be. Yes there’s a lot of harassment, but it usually goes nowhere. Especially if you file the appropriate grievances.

Yeah... I don't know the details of the cases I'm thinking of, just rumors I'm hearing. I question whether the driver actually didn't realize they may have been involved or caused the accidents. People make some stupid ass decisions sometimes.
