That is absolutely incorrect. There are still other companies contributing to the fund. UPS is not the only company putting money into it.

They may or may not be fully funded, but, besides other Co. contributions, there's certainly enough interest being made to administer payouts and ease reduction providing the IBT doesn't pilfer it again.

"As govt expands, liberty contracts"..so says govols019....dont belive the hype on the libertarian stuff bro...its not govt that is the problem..its WHO CONTROLS THE GOVT...if govt is controlled by the wealthy and powerful corporate elites, then there is a threat to our economic and civil and environmental liberties/rights.
True , to a lesser degree. Something needs to be done, however, don't paint a picture of Facism. Not just yet.

..but govt in the hands of WE THE PEOPLE, the hard working people who create the welath in this country...then its a good entity, which can protect us from big business crimes...Remember it was big govt that rescued our asses from the Great Depression...and gave us the 40 hr work week, and no child labor laws and the right to organize and collectively bargain and strike and gave us pensions and minimum wages..etc
True again....But honorable mentions goes to one of my favorite Presidents FDR and WWII was really our savior, hence the middle class started thriving again.

Granted some of these rights have been wittled away under right wing policies over the past 40 yrs or so.. BUT DONT PUT DOWN GOVT AND THE POSITIVE THINGS IT HAS DONE...just fight to put that power into the correct hands: the worker/union not Big Business...the environment not the polluter...the home owner, not the local chemical company, ..the renter/home owner not the banker/creditor....etc..KEEP THE FAITH!

Once again good points on your post but IMO reeks of too much socialism ...I'm a believer of a mixed economy , but an economy based on checks and balances much like our 3 branches of Gov't (which isn't working very well lately).

2 Questions: Do we not have cost of living raises built into the contract? Therefore, we should not ever make less when adjusted for inflation.
2nd: How does the union get away with destroying UPS drivers pensions, and everyone wants to punish UPS and not the union? Why should we then trust the union more than UPS to take care of the pension down the road?

I was told by a fellow driver that the vote results have already been determined. I thought that was interesting being that the vote has not taken place yet. He went as far as saying that of the eligible voters, 63% would vote and that the contract would past by a margin of 53% for, and 47% against. I thought this was interesting and wrote these figures down. If the vote is anywhere close to these figures,"Houston we have a problem"!!!!! He would not divulge his source.

Or, that could be the average numbers of voters over the last several contracts. The IBT could have very easily hired a firm to determine if the contract will pass or not, it happens in every political election. You posted yes/no percentages that are pretty close, which is exactly what we'd expect it to be. So I guess that any result other than it being voted down will have you calling for foul play?

The way I read the COLA is that it won't kick in until inflation is at 3.5% at which time you get a nickel per hour. Then one cent for every 0.1%. Our propsed raises are in the 2% range, so it is a pay cut in terms of what your money will buy because inflation is usually 3% lately.

Qustion 2: My opinion is that the union and the company are togetheron this. You know lets not make it look to bad. the Union has raised dues to 2.5 your hourly rate so they are good with a smaller raise for you. Union gets to keep the goverment out of their cash cow pension. UPS gets to cut costs majorly after an up front payment.

Article 34 Section 4, Subsection1, Thirty Five Cents Of Any Gwi (general Wage Increase) May Be Re-allocated As An Increased Contribution To A Teamster Pension Or Health & Welfare Fund. The Reallocation Shall Apply To All Employees In A Supplement, Rider Or Addendum, As Applicable, Provided All Of The Affected Employees (full Or Part-time, If Applicable) Are Covered By Ther Same Pension Or Health & Welfare Fund. So If We Are Supposed To Get A Raise Of Thirty Five Cents On August 1, Do You Think We Will. And Where Is Says The Money May Be Re-allocated You Can Pretty Much Guarantee That It Will Be Re-allocated. This Is Not A Very Good Contract. Vote No!!!!

Around here you can max out at $21 an hour sitting on your butt driving a city bus. They can do better than this. I am sorry you are so scared. Nothing worth having is easy, so suck it up and grow a pair!:winkiss:

Yeah, that $28 bucks an hour sounds like a sweet deal, that is until you're moving 180 stops (270 pieces) of resi off your truck every single day. Only then u understand UPS is getting more than their moneys worth out of u. Ask the drivers on industrial rtes delivering 400+ pieces while picking up 800-1200 each day if $28 bucks seems fair. Ask them how great their body feels when thursday morning rolls around. How is that proposed $32/hr gonna feel in 5 years especially after its reduced by 35 cents each year. $30.25/hr 5 years
from now? Further reducuded thx to inflation? Where do i sign up?!

Oh wait, i'm already doing it, and supporting my family on $28/hr is friggin tough. With the house and car paymts, 401k, college funds for the kids, music lessons, swim lessons, friggin dance class etc...etc...we don't summer at the vineyards bro, we don't fly to the carribean. have u ever had to just work your vacation weeks to make it happen for your family?

When i was making around $10 here, i also threw papers at 3am then painted houses all day before coming in to twilight. i remember what its like. And don't even get me started on that 10 mile walk to school, uphill in the snow. sheesh.

And finally that $28/hr job isn't going to get crowded, theres gonna be less of those jobs thx to the language in this contract. Subcontracting changes r gonna reduce the feeder dept., and the new 9.5 rules r gonna load some drivers up with 12hr days while they cut routes for others.

Enjoy your 6-10 year wait for that $28/hr job.

After reading these posts, I am glad the drivers just drive and don't make important decisions very often. When you say time is on our side, do you work for FEDEX, DHL, or the post office? Those guys are salivating waiting for us to delay this contract. They are set up to act this time around. Last strike cost us 3-4% of our business the next year. The bottom 4 drivers on our seniority list finished working peak after the strike, but then didn't work for the next 9 months. If we even get close to the deadline, we will lose more business than that. Have you told the guys on the bottom to be looking for work elsewhere if we don't pass this? Or can you not think ahead and consider what our competition wants? They aren't union, so the packages they gain won't be union packages gained. Businesses could care less about union or non-union. They only care about their business. Thankfully, Hoffa has a little sense about business to see this, though I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him.

How many of you knew that the last strike was about the pension? That was never talked about by Carey or any of the union stewards around here. They fed us a line that it was about combo jobs and part time employees. Now everyone talks as if it was common knowledge that the pension was the reason we walked picket lines.

At the end of the day you need just to weigh the pro's or gains of this proposal up against the concessions or givebacks. Ask yourself the following:

1. Is this the best ous Union could do for us?:confused:1
2. Is this the best offer the company has?:confused:1
3. Does a no vote mean we go on strike?:confused:1
4. Is the IBT telling us the truth about pension reform timelines?:confused:1
5. Is this proposal good for you and future teamster members?:confused:1

Does not take a rocket scientist to answer these questions but for all the pin heads that need help, below is the cheat sheet.

1=no 2=no 3=no 4=no 5=no
