The retirement fund in CS is no more secure now than before. UPS is not buying us out out CS, they are buying themselves out. Please refer to the above message I wrote to RED.

Keep it real as the hysteria hits . The true answer is ups is buying both "us" and ups out of central states.

At the end of the day you need just to weigh the pro's or gains of this proposal up against the concessions or givebacks. Ask yourself the following:

1. Is this the best ous Union could do for us?:confused:1
2. Is this the best offer the company has?:confused:1
3. Does a no vote mean we go on strike?:confused:1
4. Is the IBT telling us the truth about pension reform timelines?:confused:1
5. Is this proposal good for you and future teamster members?:confused:1

Does not take a rocket scientist to answer these questions but for all the pin heads that need help, below is the cheat sheet.

1=no 2=no 3=no 4=no 5=no

Pin Heads... hehe.

Anyway, I'm glad to see you really delved into the contract with an open mind and an eye to the future. I appreciate such unbiased advice.

man i foresee , that new job thats paying 28 bucks an hour is gonna get really crowded. just where do all these people who are voting no gonna work? how will you support your family? have the most of you forgotten what its really like to make a living on 10 bucks an hour? and support a family? or i guess some of you have never had to work anywhere but ups:confused:1
Please explain why we will be looking for work if we vote this contract down? Since you have such an incredible insight on ups affairs, you must know something that we dont. I can tell you that i would vote this same contract down on july 31st of 08 the day the current one expires, so why should we except it 9 10 months early?

This is a ridiculously easy vote for anyone. It is a simple case of the union trying to save itself and the company taking advantage. UPS will save billions down the road by letting them out of the Central States fund. The union is happy to be let off financially and the company still saves billions and we the people who make everything happen are left in the cold. We need stronger language to protect the ones of us who still have time left to serve. The only people I have talked to who have shown any interest in this garbage contract are the ones looking to take advantage of the 30 and out immediately. I can't blame them but that clause is not going anywhere. We should demand more and better. UPS is trying to eliminate the part time worker as we know it. Their goal is to turn part time employment into something staffed by a temp service with no benefits and set pay. Part time drivers are to be implemented with this new contract. This will make the utility drive a thing of the past. You will have part time drivers making $16.10 an hour with no chance of gaining full time. Split raises are unacceptable. This is a 4 BILLION a year profit company! We owe them nothing! They are not doing us a favor. Those of us who give an honest days work for an honest days pay deserve better. Please spread the word to all of our younger members at your hubs and centers. WE MUST VOTE THIS CONTRACT DOWN!

Dude I just joined today after being a long time observer. I do feel very passionate, however, in my belief that this is a garbage contract and anyone who has read it and can't see that is shortsighted. I am a 15 year man who just wants his future secure.

If that indeed is the case then you have my apologies.

No problem. We are all entitled to our own opinions. I just invite anyone who is unsure to please ask questions or just read over the contract in its entirety. I just want everyone to be totally informed. I have read the contract 3 times to come to the opinion I have. We are all in this together and should not be afraid to ask for more and should not settle for anything less. Without us, the hourly worker, there would be no UPS.

I guess I'm missing something and to be honest I have not been paying much attention to these issues for the past month. How is your future secure with staying in the CS plan as it currently exists.

And if you're not in CS how does making 32 bucks an hour by 2012 make your future less secure?

In my opinion too much hysteria being posted here by both sides.

Funny thing is, it's amazing how so many people can read the same information and come to dramatically different conclusions :D

It's the loss of language, the split raises, the destruction of the part time employee that I have issue with. I am full time by the way but still look out for my part time brothers. I was there once. I really don't have a problem with the pension money being taken over by the company. I don't trust the union to secure my money for another 20 years. I would like a guarantee, however, that the company will not cut the pension in the future.

How can you be positive about the contract? No full time jobs for 5 years. You could become a part time coverage drive but will have no chance at full time employment. Even if you never plan to go full time or retire from UPS then the split raises will cut into your future income. What's in it for you? You have to explain to me what you are getting out of this. Why dog me so much for being passionate about wanting to have the same future as those getting ready to retire now? You guys are hammering my posts. I am providing accurate info and am very intelligent and informed yet I am being crucified.

We've got till July 31st, 2008( more than 9 months) to ammend this contract to something that shows some type of reward for the employees who have helped UPS record profits of 4 BILLION dollars last year. More than enough time to get it settled without businesses diverting. Too much vagueness, not enough BITE.

I prefer to think I'm less negative than you are.

I do? I think you need to go back through these threads you're appearing in and read them... carefully.

I think you're being overly sensitive because people don't necessarily agree with you.

True, in theory we have until July 31, 2008...But how long will it take to get another agreement? Do you know it would be done and ratified by 8/01/2008? Customers will get scared if they hear the tentitive agreement was voted down. Customers will leave between the no vote and until a contract in ratified.

Nothing worth having is easy, so stop shaking in fear and ask for a better deal. I'm guessing the have a fallback postion to this B.S. offer, its not the worst offer but i hope they underestimated us dumb truck drivers and we have the cojnes to ask for a better deal.
