This is fast becoming my favorite thread on BC.

I want to thank everybody for sharing their opinions, even those I've been actively arguing with.

I apologize if it seems like I'm actually angry with anybody here. Mucho respect for everybody in this thread willing to stand up and speak their mind.

Yeah, I'm a road hog
No. There was a vote. The company is in dishonor and a supportive position is dishonorable. These are the times when courage is needed to stand in a strong position. Its unfortunate for "thousands of teamsters" who would lose work. should they not stand together and say No? Are you weak? Do you not understand the dishonor UPS, and the Teamsters, are showing these locals?

And before you spiral, these things mater. No more can we allow dishonor amongst our ranks. Not only as teamsters, ups employees, but men and women.
After all, all we have is our word, our integrity, our honor.
Sounds like you want SOB's job.

I don’t know that they are. Really I’ve only heard a few places on here. I don’t know those specific reasons.

I do.

Because some locals actually took the 45 days and forced UPS to come up with a solution.

Some didn’t. Those areas that didn’t are in trouble without a 6th punch.

They will not be able to get everything done and there will be consequences.

How does one even go about becoming a union leader?

Is local steward the first step or...?

I'll be honest, I may not have the right degree for it but I would love to have a seat at the table.
Sean is a Jedi.

He did the best job in the situation he was in.

Quit fighting it and enjoy the ride. (If you don’t like it you have a choice)

Out here on this side of the divide we enjoy the brown cafe for entertainment. We have this job for the insurance and the security of the union retirement. Many of us post because we learn more about our job here than in our respective buildings.

Because they want to see how far they can push things before we push back. So quit backpedaling and take a stand now.

How far they can push things? It’s already too late in certain areas without forcing drivers in on Saturday.

There is no backup plan, besides losing shippers and jobs.

But maybe I did over exaggerated on thousands of lost jobs, but there will be lost jobs.

We're all good, bruddah! That was an honest question, not a critique of SOB. I've honestly liked the things I've read and seen immeasurably more than under Hoffa's leadership.

I need to get to sleep but I'm not trying to form a movement here. Just talking and venting. Sometimes I'm a little long-winded, but that's because I bottle that :censored2: in through the day and have all the time in the world to form complete thoughts on things.

*I did a lot of edits here, i don't even know how to highlight them

If you don't eventually stop behavior like this it never changes and in fact usually gets worse. The only fix is to make them face the consequences of their actions. Don't get me wrong it's like ripping that bandaid off. It hurts. But having to continue to bail out someone who isn't even trying does way more harm in the long run.

He gave them 60 days, or whatever it was, to work out the 6th punch Saturday issue.

Typical UPS, they didn’t.

But now, you want SOB to tell them no forced 6th punch and let them fall on their face this peak?

Great, let’s just lose more customers and more jobs.

He is going to let UPS get through peak and then work it out, as he should.
How would that be the unions fault.
The company agreed to no force 6punch
Union gave them extra time
Still they didn’t figure out their plan
If union dosnt fold and let the force 6punch it’s their fault for customers lost
Does this really make sense to you?

Without a forced 6th punch, all the packages will not be delivered. Shoppers will go elsewhere after we screw them big time during peak.

And yes, we will lose thousands of jobs as these shippers leave.

And yes, it is the Comoanys fault.
Wrong.
The packages could easily be delivered without forcing a single 6 punch. Like you keep saying “it’s only 4 Saturdays” (I count 5?) ups can offer 2x and see how many volunteers they get. Then try 3x.
What you should be saying is ups does not care about the customers enough to offer a premium to get people to volunteer for 6punch and you feel like it’s our duty to save them the cost of 2x or 3x.

Like I said. 4 more Saturdays. It will be worked out after peak. Deliver the damn Christmas presents on time.
And now you set past practice.

We all can see it now… Next Christmas comes along and they need to reevaluate
Yep. But they didn’t. And now we’re here.

Never said it’s our fault. It’s the Company’s fault. But now we’re here.

Sure.

It’s dishonorable that you want to cost thousands of Teamsters their jobs because you’re unwilling to work a few more Saturdays to get through peak and then let SOB work out the 6th punch.
Its already been worked out.

It’s about enforcement now.

If you’re in local 639, call 202-624-6800. You can add your name to the list of employees that are not amused with being the only local in the country being “forced” into working Saturdays during peak. Make sure to grieve this to collect that sweet triple time pay!

We called them too much and they have created a voicemail box to transfer you to when you ask for the package division so that they don't have to speak to their constituency. Unbelievable

AAA is only 6.85$ a month and they answer my phone call very responsively. That’s about 1/20th of my union dues.
