I was the same way did 33 years. Then one day I was in an old pos 700 out in the sticks.
Cab full of dust every box had a layer of dust on it
It came to me clear as a bell. You don’t have to do this

Turned my papers in and was gone shortly after

One of the best decisions I have ever made
Pretty much the same for me.

After peak 2012, it came time for us to pick vacations. My age was right and my attitude was right.

Picked all six weeks in a row, added my sick and personal days and started the paperwork with the pension fund.

Sounds familiar. Had 32 in, really wasn't thinking about retiring. Came back from a 3 week vacation after Labor Day.
And just had a horrible day. Came home and told my wife I think I've had enough. She just looked at me and said,
"Well then, bleep it, we'll make it work." Started the process the next day.

Gravy route
At hour 68 I fell asleep at the wheel for the first time (driving over 30 years).

It was for a couple of seconds and honestly it was pure exhaustion rather than lack of sleep.

Driving by stops, confusing addresses, and frankly not having the mental acuity to even figure out delivery order...strait RDO.

70 hr rule is a mistake. Everyone is pissed off and has no motivation to get it done. We are rolling tens of thousands of boxes every day at our bldg, and the accidents and injuries have started.

My eyes shut for a second while diving back to building on Tuesday after a loooong day. Scared the hell out of me . ...

That's not good. :(

Nope, sure isn't.

Sounds like dehydration. Cramping and confusion...can be very dangerous.

This time of year its easy to dehydrate. Possibly drinking less water because its cooler outside.

I'm hurting the next day if I don't drink AT LEAST 1 gallon per day. Doesn't happen often, but when you cramp up, dehydration shows it's ugly face and it takes a good 12 hours to recharge.

I agree.

They stress this at PCM even for us preload people. Just because you don't feel hot doesn't mean you shouldn't stay properly hydrated. I see a common thing among drivers and loaders though...they usually have highly caffeinated drinks with them all the time. They need to substitute that with water and Gatorade or other non-caffeinated beverages. I thought I was gonna have a damn heart attack last week. I drank a Monster at work instead of water and I can really feel the difference.

Retirement is much more than sitting at home all day posting on Brown Cafe (@oldngray, @rod and @moreluck). @cosmo1 does it right-----he works when he wants and still has time to "play Grandpa".

Jeff, do yourself a favor and seriously evaluate where you are and what you want to do with the rest of your life. I know that you enjoy volunteering at your church. Have you ever thought about taking part in a mission to a foreign country?

There is more to life than delivering QVC to hoarders.
