Am I in?

Not being a downer, but they use and abuse helpers here, just be prepared and tell them you can't work if it doesn't make sense to do so. IE. drive 35 miles to meet your driver but you're only permitted to help him/her for 1.58 hours. This scenario will cost you money, it's a common occurrence in our center, especially in November.

Okay DOK. Thanks for the heads up. I wonder if that's their way of testing people to see who was more willing to do things and then maybe get hired after season. Also, I just called the local office where I went to the appointment and tried to speak to human resources but was told to email again. I've emailed twice, and haven't gotten a response. I won't email a third time as that'd be on the verge of being a nuisance. I guess I'll just wait and hope for the best. My application still says active.

They realize this after the first check.... Better off going seasonal at the gap or Macy's....make more money for easier work...

They aren't your usual employer..they have been known to take weeks or months to get back to people ....or call you and say you will start in 3 weeks then call back in an hour to ask how fast can you get in they need you now....for such a large company they fly by the seat of their pants ....

Ups can spend billions on technology but use a payroll system from the 1980's.....ridiculous!!
Whose building is willing to be the beta test site for a brand new payroll system? As a supervisor I hated pay problems and would gladly use the UNIVAC for my entire career as long as it worked...

Today will mark the 2nd week. Still haven't gotten a call. Starting to give up hope.
Why didn't you apply as a package handler? The preload in my building has been double shifting because they can't get enough people who want to work. You can work the preload and still be a driver helper.

Thanks for the reply Car Washer. I just emailed HR and they got back with me. I have orientation Monday now! Yay!

Congrats!

Keep in mind that just because you have orientation on Monday does not necessarily mean that you will be on road on Tuesday.
Not on the road but working preload or another sort until helpers are needed. Most likely turn permanent PT and then wait for a FT driving spot to open up. Much better plan then trying to go FT driving from a Christmas driver helper job.

New to this site & had a question. Got a call from HR today and was told to show up for orientation the following day at 8 AM and that they wanted me to start this Thurs. I told them that I couldn't make it because I already had a doctor's appointment scheduled at the same time. Does this mean that I will not be called back for another one and I'm SOL? I know it's a bad way to start off, but I really need to keep my doctors appointment. Now I'm worried that I lost my chance to get in to UPS & did all this for nothing.
