The job is only as bad as you make it. If you do what you are suppose to you will not hear a word, Stir the pot and the job can be hell. Beats the hell out of working 2 jobs.I hear you man, but becoming a driver is something im not sure I want to do. Im at least going to wait it out and see what happens on the next contract before I make a decision. From what I read on here and from what other drivers tell me some of the management make the job hell. To be honest I have little to no stress just doing my part time preload gig
I would either hire a manager or figure out which of my employees I could trust to run the business in my absence.
I have 2 full timers and a part timer as needed, but the stress of it is what gets me
You can try to become a PT air driver. A lot easier than working inside, and more money. After 2 years, you get top rate. I know one air driver who made about 45-50K this past year.
$27+I know I can figure it out myself, but im lazy. What is the pay for top rate?
Couldn't hurt to rethink going to school and utilize the reimbursement. There are other UPS avenues that'll pay $30+ and doesn't require the toll on ur body for walking packages all day or confine you in a hub. But that's just me lol
If a PT air driver is making $50k/year, he is working FT hours. You can try to become a PT air driver. A lot easier than working inside, and more money. After 2 years, you get top rate. I know one air driver who made about 45-50K this past year.

I would say working 6 days a week and being available to work extra hours would be working FT without FT benefits. I made almost $67k last year doing the same thing.Pretty much or close to it, but not all the time. During this past peak he was working over 50+ hours a week. Plus doing airport shuttle gives you extra hours and working Saturdays.

I would say try to get that driving gig unless you have enough business with your other job to surpass that OT pay plus top rate. But, driving isn't as easy as most pre loaders like myself believe in my center. I cover drove during peak and I have a whole new respect for drivers. I want the FT but it's not for everyone. Try to cover drive first and see if it's something you want to do.I've been going back and forth as to what my goals are going forward in my life, but I don't think leaving ups is one of them. The pension and benefits just seem too good and to be honest with all of you there is no way im going back to school.
I own and run a decent sized landscaping business full time and do preload. I have been asked to be a driver, but I am reluctant because of how my business does for me, and because most of the drivers I talk to seem miserable.
Anyways, I know I can't do landscaping forever so a part of me just wants to work my ass off for like 10 years doing both, then selling off my business and living a comfortable part time life at ups. I figured in 10 years lets just say I will be making around 20 an hour part time and hopefully I can sell off the business for a nice chunk of change, and maybe buy a multi family home or something of the like.
Does my dream seem unrealistic? I don't need much to be comfortable and im very good with money. If I can partially retire in 10-11 years once im 40 and just comfortable work part time isn't that kind of living the dream?
