After watching Bud Qualifying it does look like the Rousch/Yates alliance is paying off. Even Ricky Rudd (Wood Brothers who leases Rousch Motors) talked about Doug Yates coming over to the #21 car and tuning the motor before the last practice and it paid off not only in the practice but also looks like Rudd benefitted in qualifying with a solid 4th position run. The body improvements for sure paid off but Ford will have a new cylinder head about mid season so that may prove interesting.

No question DJ knows Daytona but I still like that #29 car. It may not be Big E driving the car but RCR has tons of notes from the true master of Daytona and aero racing. Had Kevin picked the upper line we probably would be talking about DJ finishing 2nd or 3rd. The 125's will be fun to watch. Man I got perfect attendence and an option day on Thursday sure is tempting. You guys wouldn't rat me out would you?

8 may have pushed him there but he still had to be in front of the 8 to be pushed in the first place. GO 88

There was a lot of bump drafting going on. Harvick was pushing people as well and if you look close you'll see a number of cars doing it as the aero just works this way. I also wish Tony Stewart had a btter gear in the car because it would have been fun to watch Smoke and Jr. hook up and race to the front.

As for Jr. not pushing DJ again? I'll question that thought process all day long. Plate racing works off momentum not shear horsepower and the DEI cars don't have the plate track advantage they had a few years ago. Even Jr. fully admits that. Had the same circumstances been in place next Sunday in the 500 you can bet Jr. would do the same thing. A sure finish of 2nd with those points is much better that the risk of going for the win and getting Freight trained back about 10 spots and loose points. Points now are even more important with this new playoff format.

Also Jr. has said in the past that DJ was very important in his life after the loss of his father so that relationship is much deeper than we all may realize and Jr. has his dad's loyality. His actions Saturday night was no surprise at least to me.

Now one other point about Jr. Saturday night. Tony Sr. admitted they made the wrong choices in setup especially with the trackbar so what you saw in the race was all Jr. so in that respect I wouldn't bet against Jr. come Sunday either. I just hope he doesn't have his Dad's 500 curse and it takes him 20 years to win the big race. Watch Jr. in the twins and this will tell the story for Sunday.

Of concern is the lack of car count in the field. Because of how you qualify for the 500 it normally brings out a big car count with 50 plus and sometimes over 60 cars a norm. This year only 45 cars showed up and many of those are one race deals so full fields going forward should be of concern. Now I'm an advocate of going back to the old 36 car fields so this may be good in that respect but for racing overall it's not good.

Sick Days? Well yes and no. Option selection can either be one of 3 choices. 58 hours pay, a week off with 58 hours pay or a total of 8 days off taken individually with any unused days being paid off in December. These could be sick days or used for long weekends, special circumstances etc. As to how management treats these days it varies from location to location. Some as more flexible than others and some of that is because of people abusing the situation and placing the business in a pinch at a bad time. You'll hear stories that run the gammet when it comes to option days.

I'm under the Mid-Atlantic supplement and we get five optional holidays wwhich you have to ask for in writing 8 days before the day you want off. Mgt has to reply within 2 days in writing. We also get 5 sick days. After you get to four weeks of vacation you can float one week and use the days individually using the same procedure as for optional days. For these days you get paid nine hours instead of eight because of vacation being a 45 hour paid week. It is strange how it varies from supplement to supplement.

Here in New England, the Teamsters handle the pension for PT UPSers. It's different depending on where in the country you are.

Wkmac..

I think the car count will be ok after Daytona. With the teams spending nearly 2 full weeks in Daytona, the cost is way up there. Im concerned when I hear that Nascar was scrambling to get more teams to the track. In my mind that means that unprepared teams and drivers are going to be on the track and thats a safety issue for me. I remember Neil Bonnetts death and his driving a car that was way under financed and a $5.00 part broke that led to his fatal crash. Yes, that can happen to anyone, but the chance increases when the car owner is scraping for pennies.

the edr process is useless, don't even bring it up. HR will instantly become an extention of the legal dept.

No surprises. The usual breakdown is about 90% of DRIVE's PAC money going to Democratic candidates and the remainder going to the RINOS (Republicans in name only). The socialist ALF-CIO usually is up around 95% or higher.

Okay, I did a quick tally. There were 285 Democratic (85%) candidates receiving PAC money vs. 52 Republicans (15%) out of a total of 337 endorsed candidates. I didn't bother adding up the dollar amounts and I'm sure these percentages would change if this exercise were performed. Even though this is PAC money, I'm thankful for the Beck decision because my own voting preferences generally don't reflect these union endorsements.

Bm,
The only fluke I see was Saturday nights race. There could be a fluke race but NO WAY a fluke season. His time is done. Has been, never ever will be. There are way too many hungry rookie drivers out there. They will eat him alive.

One thing I never understood was the difference in optionals and sick days between different supplements.
