I saw this for the first time the other night. It seemed like a lot of work to undo so I just made it my back box and pretended I didn’t see it.
I don’t think I was trained to build a set like this. Fortunately I don’t have to worry about building them and only occasionally have to tear them down. Definitely seems like it could do some damage

I also don't understand the fixation with putting zip ties on everything, like the pin on the pintle. It's L-shaped, it's got it's own :censored2:ing handle built in.
Those zip ties may be used to loop over the angled handle of the pintle hook latch to offer some assurance the pin doesn't vibrate out.

Have I seen pins that have vibrated/worked their way out? Yes.
Have I seen donuts that have come off the hook while the truck is going own the road? Yes.
It's kinda like putting zip ties on the corner latches of container trailers.

Is several zip ties and 5 minutes to put them on worth it?

Draw your own conclusions......

....in the old days, the pintle hooks didn't have that pin.

What could possibly happen when the snubber loses air and the hook releases the donut?

Use your imagination....

The flapper on the pintle hook does not just pop up. You have to use the small handle and pull it slightly left in order to raise the flapper.

Could it slide over and raise up on it's own if the pin wasn't there?

Well, as you said, we never had the pins on our old drop frame trailers. It was not an issue.

On the trailers now, it is just an added safety feature in case the pintle hook was faulty.
