I was talking to a friend yesterday about the mandates, he works for FedEx. No word yet from them on anything, I'm sure they'll wait til after peak to attempt rolling these out. But, I do believe they'll honor the religious/medical exemptions. Our hub cant afford to lose one driver, let alone 10-30% of the workers. They cant even punish people for no call/no shows, late airs, misloads like crazy, no one wears a mask or cares at this point. I think UPS is way too chaotic for them to try to enforce this. I can see a situation like this,
Management: "hey, did you get the vaccine?"
Me: "No, I have my religious exemption though, would you like it?"
Management: "Oh, okay, no thats okay, be safe out there"
Me: "Sweet, thanks"
Maybe I'm being too naive...but just observing how much of a
show we already are WITHOUT a very divisive and segregating tactic thrown in the mix, I don't see it. I also overheard one of our shop stewards saying that they could claim we dont have 100 employees in our building at any one time, I could come in every morning at 9:15, have someone bring me my board, and then just not even go anywhere but my truck. I'm actually kind of eager to see what happens. If I have to be terminated, so be it. Thats not on my karmic soul. I will stay true to myself and prosper on. Seems straight moronic to risk health/life for a job 75% of us probably despise in a lot of ways.
