California Driver applying for open Texas Driver Position

Good evening Brothers/Sisters,

Thanks in advance for your time and attention. You could be anywhere in the world but you are here so thanks.

I am a 2 year California (northern) package car driver. A few months ago, I tried to submit a transfer out to Houston, but I was ultimately told I could not transfer outside of the region. I brushed it off and resumed regular work/life. At the time there were no open positions available for Houston or Willowbrook (outskirt).

About an hour ago, I checked open positions for the hell of it, and sure enough they are hiring drivers for both Houston and Willowbrook. I quickly logged in and went to apply, but I was greeted with a prompt informing me that I would have to apply through UPSers "my life and career" section.

I looked high and low, but was only able to find management positions posted on the upsers website.

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Are there any tips you can provide to help me get to the application/interview process? I have no problem with flying to Texas for an Interview, etc but I have to submit the application first.

Please let me know, California is for the birds and we are ready to leave asap.

Thank you

Most Texans have long forgotten the Alamo.

:bsbullf: what the hell do you know about it? You live in New Yak. I've been in Texas a hundred times. Anyone who has lived there for any length of time knows all about Texas history and is extremely proud of it. All anyone knows about New Yak is that some island sold for 24 dollars worth of beads.

So.... I just did something a little sneaky. Because the UPS careers page would not allow me to apply under my original profile, I created a separate one.

I went through the application process but at the end there was some "down for maintenance" error. I guess this maintenance will be over at 6am my time tomorrow. The application is saved, should I submit it tomorrow or just wait and speak to folks my step mother knows?

It's not like I'm being dishonest I am 100 percent transparent in the application on where I'm from and what I'm currently doing. I don't want to make any critical errors here LMK.
Honestly I would keep application saved do not submit it until you speak to your people's and then release application.. remember management has their way of going around and do things their own way.. that's why I said to you after your interview sneak into building managers office introduce yourself and let him know what you are trying to do.. who knows if one way don't work then maybe he could slide you in another way... keep me posted I am really interested on how this turns out . ..

My Dad and step mother are in Cypress we are looking to be closer to them. Dallas is really nice we drove up there during our vacation. One of my cousins bought a really nice home for 240K. We would consider it but with a young child and parents entering retirement we will need their support.

And no, I'm a UPSer until I retire or get replaced by robots. I love this job and have zero plans on walking away from it.

Hate to bust your bubble
but the only way I see you transferring to Texas is quit

And hope you can get rehired

Most current Texans are descended from people on the other side of the Alamo...

According to Google:

2005 Texas was 31% Hispanic
2016 Texas was 39% Hispanic

29% of the population speak Spanish

You have to take into consideration that these figures came from the US Census people so probably only legal Hispanics were counted. That leaves a LOT of room for error.

Air Force bases don't count. If I judged a state on the towns outside a military base I would assume after spending a couple of months at Ft.Polk La. that every town in La. was filled with whore houses and bars. We used to call Leesville, La. Diseaseville, La.---P.S. I have been to La. on other occasions and its a beautiful state. Too damn hot and humid but nice in its own way.

We found a beautiful nearly 4000 sq ft home in Cypress for 320k.

In my neighborhood that would be a 1.5+Million dollar home.

The schools are enormous and highly rated, we won't have to pay out the ass for private school. We were out there for a week. My takeaway... Texas has their sh_t together and spends their money on the right things.

I'm also itching to get a CCW and start concealed carrying. In california you can forget about it unless you're a swat team member or Jeweler.
Thought it was crazy that gun culture is big in Texas but they still can't open carry with no license.. blows my mind .... but wait 30 years, Texas will become a very different place...already happening in places like Austin...

I have completed the application and can schedule an interview anytime after July 6th. As soon as I reached this point I sent texts out to my shop stewards to see what their take was on it. If I have to quit in California, that is fine but I am not quitting until I have secured something in Houston.

As I said before I have zero problem with hopping on a plane. I was transparent in the interview about my work history. I will wait until I hear back from my stewards, my step mother when she gets back in town and possibly my supervisors.

I just don't want them running interference in my plans.

That's wild but I would be totally fine with concealed carry. Even if open carry was permitted I would still conceal carry.

As of Jan 1, 2016 anyone with a legal CC permit is allowed to open carry a handgun as long as it is in a holster and it is being carried in a place that hasn't outlawed guns on the property.

I agree... too many issues of drawing attention to yourself...

Lol I'm over California I've noticed while I'm out on routes the people are really aggressive and mean. My wife liked how chill everyone seemed in Houston. People actually treat each other with respect down there. I need everything Houston has to offer.
rental properties can be a mixed bag... know someone who has them and there has been a few times renters have totally thrashed the place and took off... thousands of dollars in damage....
