Central States going broke---

Most company suck-asses don't.

@quad decade guy is a prime example.

Prime example of what? Exactly now.

You don't know me.

Again if you did....you wouldn't say such stupid things about me.

I used to be a rebel. Went to work angry. Came home angry. Being pretty miserable. Embarrassing Division Managers in building wide PCM's....pushing back at every turn....

Bid out of pkg. Better

Feeders. Better but feeder cpu still sucked, working nights, going to the bottom with 30 years seniority really sucked.

I've tried to make a difference. Example: Right here on BC. Look at the idiots I try to help and ripped for it. Trying to fix stupid in the company, union and coworkers. I get ripped for just having a job.

But then I finally realized/learned......how to shrug. Example: "Hey man(to yard walker), walking in the yard with your head down in your cell phone and in between trailers is going to get you killed....especially without a orange cone...." Yard walker: "I don't have to do anything...who the friend are you...?"....Me: shrug...and he would be correct. Good luck.

Oh, I still care. Offer my considerable experience and safety record(to hourly/mgt) now and then. Trying to help/show how to keep safe and stay out of "trouble" for a long and profitable career. When I'm mostly turned down/ignored.....I just carry on. Cool.

Punch in. Punch out. Easy peasy.

Suck ass? So laughable.

Shrug.

The Central States Fund was also hurt by the deregulation of the trucking industry in the 80s. Many union carriers couldn't compete with non-union, privateers and Mexican companies. The Union carriers were forced to make hard decisions over labor costs and most eventually closed their doors. These companies left the fund with IOUs that were never to be collected. Combined with the government taking over the fund because of Vegas investment investigations and the fund was doomed. Today the fund is working with government to sure up the finances through the Butch Lewis Act, kind of a FDIC for the fund. Democrats are willing to support a bill, but Republicans are not. Not sure if a Biden White House will advance any talks.
Tax payers should not be on the hook for the Teamsters self induced mess. I wouldn’t support Biden if a gun was pointed at my head.

Sort of.

In 2002 they reduced the accrual rate from 2% to 1% and for new, or renegotiated contracts, there was a certain

negotiated. Can't remember the numbers right now. Extending the retirement

age would be a long term addition. But when you have all the "orphans" from defunct companies and a

4-1 ratio of retiree vs active.... it's only a matter of time.
Hate to say it but with wear n tear on brown driver bodies orphans have to go.
I agree. However, if you bail out the banks....why not us? Serious question.

No Bank or airline bailouts. Why are the “repayers” always last.

Lots of different crafts out there that the teamsters represent. Plenty that put more wear n tear or strain on someone then a UPS driver.

Not saying we don't work hard and deserve our pension just saying we don't know what they "orphans" did.

So a 70 plus year old retired UPS driver who for all purposes is unemployable loses his pension- just who do you think will end up “on the hook” to take care of him? One way or the other it will happen.

How much money does the US give to other countries? And who’s getting the most?

Globally in 2018, the United States spent over $47 billion in foreign aid ($1 billion more than 2017). Nearly 37% of that budget went to just ten countries:
  1. Afghanistan ($5.94 billion)
  2. Israel ($3.11 billion)
  3. Jordan ($1.67 billion)
  4. Egypt ($1.23 billion)
  5. Iraq ($1.18 billion)
  6. Ethiopia ($878 million)
  7. Syria ($835 million)
  8. Kenya ($824 million)
  9. Nigeria ($820 million)
  10. South Sudan ($789 million).
But yeah, heaven forbid we spend a single penny to bail out Americans who worked all their lives only to lose their pensions through no fault of their own.

It worked out where the fat slobs running the fund went out for a big dinner.

Kudos to you having such an amazing "signature line". You truly are a legend.

Up this way we have to. Union does nothing. I'm anxious to hear your retort since I already know what it is. Keep up the good work Big UPS Man.
@BigUnionGuy has helped a lot of people in locals with weak and poor representation over the years. ive read this site for a long time. he is typically right on issues that he's watched and dealt with for many more years than some on here have been alive. maybe in 2021 folks posting on here can work and reason together to help make everyone's future stronger instead of lobbing old and tired insults just to bitterly goad other Teamsters.

this is Paul Harvey,

you think about that.

Noble statements indeed.

However, try to offer good sound advice here on BC? Pure folly.

Working together at UPS is not what mgt wants nor the hourlies apparently. And I've been doing this LONGER than

some have been alive let alone worked at UPS.

Teamwork...at UPS? At the union hall? Laughable. It's more....who gets to go to Vegas baby!

Show by example how to work safely and properly? You are just shunned and belittled.

You learn to do your job as safely and productively as possible with what tools and equipment you are given.

The rest will work out or not.

Shrug.

A quick look at US bailouts since my birth.
1. 1970 Penn Central Railroad 3.2b
2. 1971 Lockheed 1.4b
3. 1974 Franklin National Bank 7.8b
4. 1975 NYC 9.4b
5.1980 Chrysler 4.0b
6. 1984 Central Ill National Bank 9.5b
7. 1989 Savings and Loan 293.3b
8. 2001 Airline Industry 18.6b
9. 2008 Bear Stearns 30.0b
10. 2008 Fannie/Freddie 400b
11. 2008 AIG 180b
12. 2008 Auto Industry 25b
13. 2008 TARF 700b
14. 2008 Citigroup 280b
15. 2009 Bank of America 142.2b
16. 2020 PPP, Airline and Bond purchase program 2.2t

The vast majority of all these bailouts will never be paid back. These are our tax dollars. Let's not also forget the 1970s government investment in Amtrac that has been bailed out continuously since it's creation.

I believe the Central States is not looking for a bailout but an insurance policy to build the pension back more responsibly.

Unemployable? Really? No Walmart or McDonalds near by?

Most of us have worked all our lives from a young age. Personally I have worked a paying job from 4th grade until a little over a year ago and I’m 72 now. You say get another job— I say friend you.
I would rather work for a living than live off of a government handout.

He realized how many greedy corporations during a 2008 and 2009 great recession got huge government handouts and these are corporations that made multi-billions dollars

now you're trying to compare it to somebody that put his time in and part of his pay compensation was money paid into a pension fund and he can't ask for a little bit of help?
