capitalism seems oppressive
No system is perfect, capitalism in it’s true form has expanded freedom and liberty and wealth to far more people than any other system.
What you see as oppressive capitalism is actually crony capitalism. The government picking winners and losers.

but its oppressive, employers set up cruel, harsh, tyrannical work environments. thats why we have unions as a partial solution but even then its not good enough.

standards of living improved under slavery too, but thats not a justification for it. alot of capitalism's improved standards of living is simply because we are in a capitalist civilization bubble.

Is it employers setting up cruel, harsh working environments or is it you find hard work cruel and harsh?

What do you think lol

Reporters cover it too

Ups qualifies. walmart. Amazon. Railways. fuel trucking. Hospitals even.
So you find hard work cruel and harsh. Let's take UPS. In order to give you an easy day they'd have to pay a good deal less because they'd have to hire a lot more people so that everyone could deliver half as much. You'd get less hours too. Jobs with good pay and benefits are often much more demanding than easy jobs that don't pay much.

You go on about how terrible the system is but better lives often come at a price. Want an easier work environment get a college education. Even then depending on the job it can be very demanding. Why do you think people are running into stores and snatching and grabbing? It's a lot easier than working for a living.

no if UPS was owned by the workers you could probably earn more and lift less and work shorter hours.

its just cuz of greed and profits that its like this.

capitalism promotes bad behavior because profits is all that matters. economist michael hudson uses the term snatch and grab in reference to wall st buying up property during GFC and covid. if capitalism can normalize people behaving badly, then it gives capitalism an excuse to treat its workers and environment badly.

youre right better lives come at a price. we havent paid the price, thats why were not free.

That's amazing! You've figured out something that union negotiators have never figured out! You can work less, be less productive, and make more money! Easy peasy! Never been done before but let's try it! Brilliant!

There's no jobs if the capitalists don't create the business. Jobs don't just exist on their own. The jobs pay what people are willing to accept and in the case of UPS it pays better than most jobs due to union representation. Your way everything unravels.

you dont need capitalism to have jobs

that region in italy which is not capitalist has jobs and high pay because theres no capitalist taking all the money for themselves.

emilia romanga, ive posts the stats repeatedly

capitalism is only a few hundred years old. there were jobs before capitalism
4.5 million people with 2 out of every 3 workers belonging to cooperatives yet they produce only 30% of its GDP. Please tell me how that kind of productivity will feed, house, and clothe 8 billion people on the planet?

the point is, its not capitalist, and the workers have more money because theyve taken out the middle man which is the capitalist
