From the CDC:
COVID-19 spreads mainly from person to person through respiratory droplets. Respiratory droplets travel into the air when you cough, sneeze, talk, shout, or sing. These droplets can then land in the mouths or noses of people who are near you or they may breathe these droplets in.
Masks are a simple barrier to help prevent your respiratory droplets from reaching others. Studies show that masks reduce the spray of droplets when worn over the nose and mouth.

From the Mayo Clinic:
Can face masks help slow the spread of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) that causes COVID-19? Yes, face masks combined with other preventive measures, such as frequent hand-washing and social distancing, help slow the spread of the virus.

From Johns Hopkins:
Yes, face masks help prevent the spread of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19. If you are infected with the coronavirus and do not know it, a mask is very good at keeping your respiratory droplets and particles from infecting others. A mask can also be somewhat effective in preventing germs from getting into your nose and mouth that come from another person’s respiratory droplets.

Pretty much every major medical institution will tell you the same thing. But it's a free country, so you can certainly choose to ignore the experts and take the advice of some anonymous truck drivers on an internet forum.
Theoretical is one thing, real life is another. These are the same experts that haven't solved the bed bug problem, lice problems, or venereal disease running rampant.

Considering the fact that there are experts on both sides of this issue, and many health organizations have been politicized, I think I would put more faith in the opinion of a truck driver who is capable of seeing the irony if this abatement:

You can certainly... take the advice of some anonymous truck drivers on an internet forum.

Than one who can't.

What it really seems like is that the institutions don't really know...

Yes, and even an anonymous person can post that information on an internet forum. :wink-very:

The failure of the scientific literature to support medical masks for influenza and all other viruses, is also why Fauci, the US Surgeon General, the CDC, WHO, and pretty much every infectious disease expert stated that wearing masks won't prevent transmission of SARS CoV-2. Although the public health "authorities" flipped, flopped, and later changed their recommendations, the science did not change, nor did new science appear that supported the wearing of masks in public. In fact, the most recent systemic analysis once again confirms that masks are ineffective in preventing the transmission of viruses like CoVID-19.

From the CDC:

Nonpharmaceutical Measures for Pandemic Influenza in Nonhealthcare Settings—Personal Protective and Environmental Measures

Face Masks

Figure 2. Meta-analysis of risk ratios for the effect of face mask use with or without enhanced hand hygiene on laboratory-confirmed influenza from 10 randomized controlled trials with >6,500 participants. A) Face mask...
In our systematic review, we identified 10 RCTs that reported estimates of the effectiveness of face masks in reducing laboratory-confirmed influenza virus infections in the community from literature published during 1946–July 27, 2018. In pooled analysis, we found no significant reduction in influenza transmission with the use of face masks

We go out to a local restaurant/bar with a large outdoor area twice a week. This is in an effort to support them and hope that they stay in business. Besides that they have great food, service, and ambience. They, like every other establishment are required by the State to mask wearing, but only when walking around. All the employees wear them. The mask wearing quite honestly is a joke with people touching, adjusting, lifting them up etc. We abide by the mask wearing rules as we want to support them. Funny thing is one of our favorite bartenders is a 34 year old vegan in great shape. She has expressed to us that she has developed breathing problems from wearing the mask at work, has trouble with sleeping and anxiety. She also has had COVID and recovered.

How long will we be "required" to wear masks? Why don't we wear masks for the flu?

"The CoVID-19 pandemic is about viral transmission. Surgical and cloth masks do nothing to prevent viral transmission. We should all realize by now that face masks have never been shown to prevent or protect against viral transmission. Which is exactly why they have never been recommended for use during the seasonal flu outbreak, epidemics, or previous pandemics."

Just another internet expert with an opinion... :teethy:

253,697 dead Americans, 11.642+ million infected. 1,045 deaths already today. Yesterday saw the state of Texas les in deaths with 78 and led in newly infected with 11,879. The state of Texas is getting rocked by Covid19. El Paso has run out of hospital beds, and are using Austin hospital beds. Some Texas hospitals have what is called the “pit” where those with Covid are sent to die.
