Extended Area routes to run only 3 days per week?

Polishing toilet bowls since 1966.
I am posting on here because I have never heard of UPS servicing an area only 3 days/week.

Have any of you ever heard of any Extended Area, limited UPS service anywhere?

I am in NorCal, & I would have imagine than the rural states would have a lot of high mile, lower stop count routes.

If I don’t do EAMs, it would be 10.25 average paid, about .75 overallowed with 72-77 stops, 90-145 pieces over 165 miles. Aren’t there many rural routes like this?! Do these routes get run everyday?
Quit worrying about the over and under. They can fluff and remove from that number at any time.

I’d try and get ADA’d and get a cushy seat in your package car

Wonder how long before the criteria for a route to be eligible for rural deferred keeps expanding to the point where it includes the majority of routes? Also, can’t imagine how bad Orion is for these routes.
Well if it includes the majority of the routes then it looks like we will all get paid 8 hours to sit around and do nothing.

We have an 8 hour guarantee. As long as everyone asks for it they will need to provide the work to do it. Problem is these rural deferment guys don't do that so the company makes out.

I am convinced that they change time studies, & to their advantage.

I did the same route working at the same pace running closer to scratch. Suddenly, one day the WR distorted reality to make it look like I had slowed down.

I had not slowed down. Nothing changed. It sure appears that somebody in IE just went in and tightened the screws on my time study.

They could make it anything they wanted to, as we do not have a look inside the black box.

“You ran x hours over.” They get to pick the variable!

UPS has always been addicted to free labor.

“Geez, I better work through my breaks. I am running overallowed!”

What is "fake" retirement?
You said for the op to get a retirement job like what you have for 44 bucks per hour...you know they can't do that since they aren't a red circled 1982 employee. You guys are dying off as fast as the ww2 vets. In 10 years no pre '82 will be working here.

It’s a fact, they’re doing it now and have been since the beginning of the year.

It is not the best result for a high seniority driver to go to work 2 days/week and be “homeless”, as I will be when they don’t run my route 2 days/week.

I guess I took it for granted that I would be on my country route every day.

Is it overly cynical of me to question if corporate is using Rural Deferment to discourage high seniority drivers to keep working? (Run out the old, slower drivers?)

Putting the issue of my lower back pain aside, I would not stay on the route and be “homeless” 2 days a week, so I am going to take an inside job.

Reading that, it looks like it is a primadona (i.e. diva) attitude, but that is how I feel.

Finally, my lower back pain is much, much improved **after only 1 week** off the route, so I am grateful for that.

Sorry, but I don’t care anymore.

Of course they are trying to get rid of the senior drivers.

It’s only logical. It’s better for the company if you retire. They get new fish that have to go through progression, many of whom quit. Lowers cost of delivery.
While I am sure it has only to do with cost, I was actually wondering all the reasons why corporate would want to run out the older drivers.

I see that the younger drivers make a much lower hourly wage, often work more quickly, and are much less savvy about management’s games/tricks (i.e. easier to manipulate into donating free labor).

Because corporate doesn’t care about service anymore. If you’re a senior driver on a route for years, you know all the customers, go out of your way for some, that’s why a lot of them use UPS. Corporate doesn’t care about that anymore. We just have to be better than the others like FedEx and USPS. It’s pathetic. All about the money now.
