Well, it's only a 3 week work stopage, but yes, the pricetag for that car is just too much !
In Alberta we don't get any government grants (discounts) at all and pay the full $40K something.

I haven't seen one here, yet !
It's actually 5 weeks.....it's not meters here, remember? 45 days = 5 weeks! If the demand remains low....who knows what'll happen?

OK, I didn't look closely to those days or week numbers.
But, it's closer to 6 weeks plus (6 weeks times 7 = 42)

We've owned a total of 5 of them. We had the Mr. & Mrs. Benzs Mine was an 87 420 SEL (big one) for real estate clients.............then we went AMERICAN for many, many years....buick, chevy.

I can relate. American cars had a bad series and were unprepared for world events. From about 1973 to 1990 or so.
It was a dark period in the US auto history in my opinion. We tried to go from massive steal and horsepower to
economy in a short period. We made crap compared with the Japanese and Europeans.

We came back when we bought our Buick Regals and they had all the luxury & comfort of the Benzs we were driving. We loved them.

Chevy Volt dubbed Euro car of the year - The Hill's Transportation Report
The Geneva Auto Show announced Monday that the Volt, which is sold in Europe as the Opel Ampera, was named its 2012 Car of the Year ahead of its annual car show that opens this week.

The auto show, in its review of the vehicle, called the Volt/Ampera a "mature product, after years of development and perfectioning by General Motors, and the first example of an electric vehicle with extended range."

What do you suggest---we simply stop exploring the commercial development of the electric car?
I suggest we wait until we are comfortably 'not dependent' on anyone else for oil, then, take on the task of developing alternative fuels.

If things are rushed into, we end up throwing away money which is what Obama has done.

The real question is how many contributors and Bundlers of campaign money for Obama that know nothing about running any business are given millions and millions of our dollars --after they build their own houses buy fancy cars etc --the "solar" business go belly up ---no investigation --right yells --people forget the "alternative energy" game goes on . Americans have to wake up soon !!

Do you mean Americans like you? You need to wake-up and realize that the new GM is a phenomenal success. It's all about attacking Obama, even when he does the right thing and America benefits. You sound like a Commie who hates America.

A phenomenal success that just shelved the Volt for now and laid off all kinds of people. Yeah, that's what every company wishes they could do.

Every company has successes and failures. Overall, GM has been a huge success. You can do a Fox "cherry pick" on almost anything and find negatives.
