And the Native Americans would have been quite happy if that had occurred. Instead the Europeans and Spaniards just showed up on the shores of whether the Native Americans wanted them there or not. They were stuck with them.
Well they were savages who hadn't even invented the wheel. So, ya, they got conquered. That's how the world worked.

Used to sell on ebay ten years ago, fees got ridiculous.
12.5% plus listing fees, plus buyers now have to pay state taxes, PLUS that $600 cap. For me, that means I hardly use them any more to sell something, and I'll only buy from them if I can't find it elsewhere. Very disappointing.

And what sucked then, I had 100% rating with over 2000 ratings.

BTW. Imagine the kind of nation we would have today if it had built walls generations ago to keep out the Germans, Italians , Irish, Slovaks Norwegians etc rather than to simply hop on a boat dock at Ellis Island, sign in and away you went.
We want Anglo Masons, and carpenters. Sailors, chefs, and pipe fitters. Now we just import the 2 and 3rd world to drive down just about everything to the lowest common denominator in exchange for the a certain party to stay in power.

Yeah but there's also a whole lot of :censored2: jobs out there people aren't even aware of which is actually the better life for some folk. Jobs me and you would never think about doing. All the meat processing for example and where that starts from and what goes into that. I've seen some of that just delivering for FedEx. Almost makes me want to become a vegetarian. Almost lol.

I guess there goes the H1-B program. You know the one that allows the entry of things like engineers of all disciplines, doctors, specialists in a wide number of fields , people in these fields which the US is critically short of.

And don't forget "Operation Paper Clip".

I don’t claim to know much about that. But I do have friends that work in HR and Global placement. They say companies can basically create the need for whatever they want. That someone from wherever will do a job for them for 110k instead of an American who would expect 190k

You’re right , the new USA , benefits are becoming a thing of the past. Companies save money and people aren’t working because it’s easier to stay home and live off the government.
Country is going to hell in a hand basket. Fedex won’t survive 10 years
Huge if true.
Unemployment rate is is 3.7 right now so this argument doesn’t hold up.
OK, it's not true. So not huge.

I think becoming more efficient and profitable also requires a sustainable work force. People that you can rely on day in and day out. Especially when it comes to service. I just Don't see the contractor model as a logical solution in that regard. You are going to have to pay people what you expect of them. It would be the equivalent of buying cheap building materials for a house or cheap parts for a car. It might seem like a good idea at the time, but it's going to come back to bite you trying to cut too many corners.
It's been working for 20 years or more. Let's pretend like it's something that can't be relied upon.

I have a smartass kid in college and was in one of the touchy feely general ed classes that they force everyone to take so they can ram nutty liberal ideology down students' throats. A topic of discussion one day was this very thing and how white Europeans (and Spaniards! who are also already Europeans anyway) showed up and stole land from the Indians. Pardon me, indigenous people.

59 Smartass pipes up and asks who gave the land to the indigenous people. Well, no one did. They just happened upon the land and claimed it as their own. 59 Smartass adds that if another tribe already claimed it, the new tribe fought them for it.

The Europeans were a new tribe and fought them for it, too.

Sorry, but I don’t care anymore.

I would say it hasn't really because a big part of the reason FedEx has fallen behind UPS is because of labor shortage. That applies for both Express and the contractor model that was supposed to give FedEx the edge. It didn't, just the opposite in fact. Funny how highly paid union workers have absolutely smoked FedEx in profits for 20 years or more lol.

I make more retired than you do working. Is that my fault, or yours? You should have unionized. I have zero ill will towards express drivers, only sympathy.
That's my point. The disparage in pay also translates to service, which translates to profit. Part of that is just getting people to show up everyday and FedEx can't even do that.
