How did you know about yesterday’s announcement?
I first heard about this around the unity conference, and then it was confirmed the day prior to yesterday with phone conversations, texts and emails. I also had heard all sides were trying to get together for, or quarting each other until the last minute. For what its worth...

I'm the eternal pessimist, when it comes to all things involved with Teamster politics.

FZ was a loyal (?) supporter and hated TDU.

And now, he is the poster child for them ?

Even TDU is confused.

TDU Statement on Sean O'Brien—Fred Z Announcement

I have an opinion.... But, I'm interested to see how this plays out.

I also don’t think TDU is happy about the switch. And I do have a theory that I’ll reserve for a later date.

It does demonstrate one thing;

FZ is a Beta, and succumbs to any Alpha that comes down the street.

Either that, or he is a career politician desperately hanging on to his position.

He's had 18 years, to negotiate an industry standard contract at UPS Worldport.

But... fails in every regard.

Oz, The Munchkin and the Cowardly Lion is one of the catch phrases I'm hearing out of the gate. This should get interesting.

What position is it, that he's "desperately hanging on to"???

Pretty sure Hoffa imposed the most recent "industry standard contract" on Local 89???

....just sayin'

For the record, Fred never wanted the GP spot originally. I vehemently think this whole thing smells like poo, but you have to give Fred respect that he stepped aside and gave top billing to Sean. Back in 2015 he vied for the 2nd spot and I really believe thats all he wanted.

You don’t think it will push hall and Taylor to produce a quality contract because they will be the incumbent slate if Hoffa’s son doesn’t get appointed by dad? Hoffa isn’t running in 2021.
Good luck with that.

I think Sean would handle that right out of the gate. Sean is adamant about people producing results. If you’re one of these guys that gets appointed to a position and doesn’t perform, you’re gone.
Well it’s obvious that he stood up to ups and was willing to be fired for doing it. He has my total respect

I dont trust any of them. They've eaten at the company's table too many times and that is a problem.
I see it in our own state. The good ol boys club.
Turn the ship upside down and find someone who hasn't kissed the money ring and traded deals, screwing honest members at panels and in local hearings.

This whole deal is frustrating and I agree with @Tony Q . What a joke.

I believe it's a better combo than what we've got right now but this issue with RA and Gandee is not easily buried imo.

Well we've already endured the witch and the scarecrow so may as well add the rest of them.

What I found hilarious about yesterdays festivities was the 251 guys there to cheer on a guy who threatened them about 4 or 5 years back and actually had to serve a suspension for it, cheering him on. WTF, I remember at the convention Sean freaking out so badly at a black vest wearing Teamster that he had charges filed on him as well. The list is a long one if I ha the time to piece it all together. Sean was huge Hoffa guy until 2017 with Fred being a hofficer as late as 2012 I believe. I might be a little bit off on some of my dates, because I also have my own job to do, but to you smell what I'm cooking?

So if you look it another way Sean and Fred running together is kind of a Hoffa ticket running again, by extension.

Another race to the bottom? Wonder why unions are struggling?

Rome wasn't built in a day and Rome won't be torn down with a two year suspension. Rome is loved out west, almost to a cult following status. He's done some really stupid things, but the members love him out west and he is actually widely respected as a whole in the Teamsters. His contributions in organizing can't be ignored.
