Your argument holds true also long as the inventory isn't replenished. And we've not even brought up the idea in economics of misallocation of resources or another factor in opportunity costs or in this case, lost opportunity.
What would be the cost of a ground operation in that region?

Why I felt it important to point out that ISIS stood for Islamic State in Iraq & Syria. In more scholarly circles you will hear ISIL and in the common day circles, you'll hear ISIS.
And neither one is correct in identifying the source of the jihad.

I like the fact that Trump gave authority to the military to use whatever weapon they need to use and location without him sitting in the Situation Room ... I guess he doesn't need the photo op.

Likely more but the same economic allocation of resources apply. At some point however, you will need boots on the ground to enforce your goals and then you are back to repeating the cycle and repeating the costs. Their goal is to provoke the reaction, absorb the reaction and then repeat to escalate the economic costs. Thus why war by its nature is more expensive than other means.

ISIS originally stood for Islamic State in Iraq and Syria and then the term became ISIL or Islamic State in the Levant. The Levant has historically and in modern terms not included the area that is Afghanistan so seems to me the US Military is doing a very poor job of keeping this country free from the spread of such opposition. Or just maybe the opposition is a whole other manifestation and the propaganda arm of the US Empire State is just calling it ISIS and hoping we won't begin to see what might be taking place.

There is a reason Afghanistan has always been called the "Graveyard of Empires" and I see no reason whatsoever to view that this well earned label no longer applies.

Since this thread has so quickly been sidetracked ...I sometimes wonder as to the origins of the fart noise. Is it the escape of the gas or the movement against other body parts. does the odiferous nature affect the sound aka silent but deadly. :)

It will be fine

I'd guess he doesn't understand the complexities of what's going on so he defers to those that do. Not a bad idea in general, but we have civilian leadership of the military for a reason. The military likes to kill, it's what they do, that's not always the best course of action.

Trump approaches problems like a CEO.
That was why Obama was unable to accomplish much ... he had to be involved and making decisions in areas where he had no expertise. That is why I am hopeful with Trump regardless of his character flaws.
I worked around both types of leaders in Corporate UPS and from experience, I appreciate people who delegate to get the right decision made rather than sitting back and letting the decision make itself or make an uninformed decision.
