Non-Political Gun Talk (On topic)

I was hot to find a EAA 10mm but kinda gave up. Idk why, but I love that 10mm round

I still have the 10mm but its just a shiny paperweight. 1911 frame from Wyoming Arms (who went out of business so the lifetime guarantee is worthless). I did send it back to the factory twice but the pistol just couldn't handle the pressures so would only last a couple of magazines before it quit locking up correctly.

I had a CZ P-07 in a .40 SW. I almost converted it to 10 mm but it would've been more money than I wanted to spend

I inherited my 1911 from my father. It was his service weapon when he was a policeman. It is kinda rough, but I haven't done anything to it. It was made in 1942 for military use. I have no idea where he got it since he was never in the military.

I don't know if I would have posted a pic with a serial number on it. They may be banging on your door wanting their pistol back.

I don't know if my dad bought it from surplus after the war, or took it off a bad guy while he was working. I just wish he hadn't chromed over the original blue finish.

If it's a military model he probably obtained it himself somehow so I wouldn't be to worried about it, as the department probably didn't issue it (I also think most departments were still issuing revolvers at that time). Alternatively, if it was ever stolen he actually now has a little more proof that it was his should the serial number ever be ran somewhere.

Hell, I thought that was original. Blue finishes are pretty but they're not that durable. If he used it as a duty gun, it may have gotten too worn so he had it refinished to something more durable.

My dad carried a Sig P226 he did the same thing with. Got a lot of wear on the original finish and he was having some corrosion issues because of the humidity so he had it refinished in nickel.

Originally that 1911 was probably Parkerized. More durable than blued but not as attractive - it was for military use.

WW2 surplus were sold off to civilians I think but the ones still around when replaced by the Beretta were mostly melted down. A shame but those things were worn out beyond repair.
The Beretta is my dad's favorite gun but I can't stand it for some reason.

Nice pistols but never one of my favorites either. I wouldn't fault someone for carrying one but not my preference.
When I was younger I liked them for a while because of the way they looked, then I finally shot one of his and was like wtf. He's got three different models of those things. The 1911 was my favorite forever but is getting ready to be taken over by the Hi Power.

Beretta feels good in the hand but not as accurate as many other pistols. Plus I have never been a fan of slide mounted decocker safeties. I prefer frame safety (like 1911, Hi-Power, and CZ 75 for example).

Compared to other guns, I actually wasn't too fond of the grip. It was like the trigger guard was right above my knuckles and my fingers felt bunched.

During my last couple of days in Vietnam while waiting for my flight home one of the things I was assigned to do was fill boxes with a combination of 1911's (wrapped in plastic bags) and expanding foam. I assumed they were being packed up and sent back to the states as surplus. There was a mountain of them.

They never got sent back to the armory for a rebuild? Barrel bushings and stuff.

I was talking about when they were replaced by Berettas in the 1980's. I think a lot of the 1911's still left in inventory had about a million rounds through them and ended up getting scrapped.
