My DIL called me three times to catch bats in her basement while my son was out of town. Got two bare handed (with gloves) and one in a trout net.

I just trapped a flying squirrel in my attic (live trap) about an hour ago. Now I have to find out how he got in. Cute little bugger---I let him go outside so I'm sure I will be dealing with him again.

Many bats have rabies. You need to be very careful grabbing them.

We are starting a warm up --- in the 30's for the next week or so. My house is fairly new and well insulated so if its 20 below outside my attic is 20 below. If I catch him again I may check into keeping him in my heated shop until spring. He's not big enough to eat.

I remember a guy near me tried to patent what was basically a ceiling fan with trout flies hanging from the blades to catch bats in your attic.

Not a bad idea, but who would want to go check the thing every day?
