It's all my fault, if anyone's head should explode it's mine.
Google has a thing called webmaster tools that I don't check very often. Last week I thought I'd take a look at their report for this site and they listed their spiders had found over 9000 broken links and images. I freaked out a little bit and even contacted Matt to see if there was a malfunction here. There wasn't. I haven't been taking out the broken links and images hosted by other sites that have broken.
Google only provided me a list of the top 1000 broken links so I used
xenu to scan the website for all of the broken links and images. Xenu came up with over 6400 broken links and images. For the past few days Tony and I have been deleting posts when the only content is a broken image and editing out broken links. Images break when an image is displayed here but hosted on a different website and the host website deletes the image from their site, or if the linked image is linked from an image search in yahoo or bing. Images that are cached in a search engine expire after a period of time, and that breaks the image here. Facebook hosts a lot of broken images which have been posted here too. Photobucket images break when a member changes the privacy settings on their account (over9five).
It's just much over due housekeeping. If you think this is bad you should see the over due housekeeping in our garage
