UPS was not on my radar in high school either. While going to college there was a sign on a bulletin board that UPS was hiring college students. The midnight hub needed bodies. I said to a friend there is no way I'm going to work at 10:00pm and miss the parties for a job that only pays $1.65 an hour.
A year later a new sign was there with pay being $4.50 an hour or so. I applied and was hired within a week.
3 years later I was driving feeders and making more money than a brother who was a CPA. The 70's were a great time at Mother Parcel.
Fast forward to 2007 I retired and haven't looked back!
