Nations in Europe, Africa Admit They Had Omicron Cases Before South Africa

The Netherlands and Nigeria revealed Omicron cases prior to scientists in South Africa confirming its existence.

The government of Nigeria revealed on Wednesday that it had found the Omicron variant in a test sample from a Chinese coronavirus patient taken in October.
The governments of Belgium and Germany also indicated this week that they believe Omicron was spreading there prior to the alarm sounded in South Africa.
South African officials have insisted that Omicron is not a South African variant and that scientists documenting its presence there is indicative of South Africa boasting an effective pandemic response. The first documented cases of Omicron variant infections reportedly originated in Botswana, but the government of that country has asserted that the people who tested positive for Omicron there were foreign diplomats. They refused to identify the countries the diplomats came from, citing concerns that they, too, would suffer negative political consequences.

According to an official Pfizer document that is titled Cumulative Analysis of Post-Authorization Adverse Event Records Reports, in just the first 90 days of the vaccine’s roll out under the FDA’s EUA – from December 1st. 2020 – February 28th, 2021 – there were TENS OF THOUSANDS of reported adverse reactions, including OVER 1200 DEATHS.

The report only included adverse events to the vaccine that researchers considered “serious cases,” there were thousands more submissions that were left out of this data.

Any cases deemed “non-serious” would be processed within 90 days, but this report was released before 90 days of Pfizer’s vaccine being available had even passed.

€1,000 Fine for Taking a Bus While Unvaccinated and Untested in Italy

Italians travelling on public transport without a vaccine passport could face fines of up to a thousand euros under new restrictions.

The introduction of the fine was included in a decree which states that all Italians using public transport must hold valid a valid ‘Green Pass’, which requires either full vaccination, proof of recovery from the coronavirus, or proof of a recent negative test.

Those caught using buses or trains without the Green Pass may be subject to a fine between €600 (£511/$679) to €1000 (£851/$1,133), with police set to carry out random spot checks, newspaper Il Giornale reports.

According to the newspaper, the checks will not be performed prior to boarding public transit, with checks to be carried out at random during travel.

The mandate, first reported in the New York Times, is expected to affect approximately 56,000 workers at roughly 930 schools across the city, with all employees now required to submit proof that they have received at least one shot of the coronavirus vaccine by Monday, Dec. 20.
