Questions about calling in sick(PT package loader) Short version in replies

Light 'em up!
Having a Dr's note does not excuse the absence. Most areas have a set number of absences they will allow before invoking the disciplinary process, Dr's note or not.

Here, they can give you a verbal after 5 in a 9 month period. The 6th can get you a warning letter and so on.

A Dr's note may only mean that you were sick and not faking it, but it still counts against your attendance.

Being sick too many days leads to the disciplinary process being started. Sounds like you already got a verbal warning. A written warning is next, followed by a suspension and then possible discharge.

You may have issues, but UPS has bigger issues when you do not show up. 15 occurrences in 6 months here and you would be shown the door.

I went to school full time and was a FT ORS for a semester. And have a year of grad school under my belt, full time.

You were saying?

Impressive. Not sure how you'd manage to do that for a semester though, could not have been easy. You and I both know that the majority of people working here aren't attending school full time/seriously, though.

He managed to do it because he obviously wasn't babied growing up or allowed to make so many excuses. He knew what he wanted and made sacrifices to get it. You even blamed your parents for "forgetting" to do something where your school was concerned. That was YOUR responsibility to make sure it happened, even if you had to remind them.

As far as being sick, both my girls knew that if something wasn't coming out of one or both ends or the fever wasn't over 100°, they weren't sick. You need to toughen up.

Ahh, Our policy is 6 in a 6th month period, but our management guy has his own policy he is lenient with(6 in 60 days he told me).

I was rough on my days too, I probably haven't quite missed 15 days in the past 6 months, but close enough.

The most I've heard a PT loader have was like 38 days(called in drunk more than few times I've heard) in 6 months, somehow managed to work here for a while(he quit), a few months before quitting he showed up drunk as hell. His supervisor was "a whiny bitch" according to my supervisor and told on the dude, management for some reason let him work the full shift despite knowing this, and then went to have him tested at the hospital place UPS goes through. :censored2:er had enough time to sober up and get it out of his system by the time they tested him, so he didn't even get in trouble lol

I went to school full time and graduated in 4 years while working at UPS. Not easy but it can be done.

Ah, the old guys on the internet assuming i was babied. Literally pay/paid for everything myself, my car, phone, school, clothes, books, insurance(even in highschool), food, and even my sports(when I was old enough to get a job) guess I was babied though? Where did I blame my parents? All I said is they forgot to do something for me, I didn't say it was their responsibility, because guess who's paying for it? Me.

Did you read the part where I said something was coming out of both ends? Because I was puking all :censored2:ing weekend.

If we're just going to assume things, I assume your girls are typical girls babied by daddy(like 90% of females) who never had to lift a finger or really pay for anything for themselves and expect a handout or a man to come save them, and you think they are tough because you made them go to school when they tried faking sick! Nice!

LOL. Not even close on my girls. Yes, I read where you said something was coming out of both ends. What about the 11-15 other times you called out though?

You have no clue about her life.

I was really sick. I would not miss work for a sore throat/cough/runny nose or whatever, if that's what you're trying to say, I was probably working for 4 or 5 days with a sinus infection hacking up(not from the lungs) bloody mucus.

Probably would have about 5 less missed days if it wasn't for someone coming in when they're sick for a few days just to miss a whole week(my old supervior) afterwards, so now I do it too, just makes me miss more days though.

I am usually a full time student(this semester only part time due to money issues/long story) and I have a big family(6) that is very busy(both parents work, I work, Siblings all play sports, and all of them go to different schools). I get sick very easily, and often(every month or so someone else in the family brings something new home :sad2:.

I've had probably around 11-15 missed days(Called in) in the past six months, which is quite a lot apparently. I've had a verbal warning(Because of no doctors note one time when I needed it) about a month or two ago.

I called in last friday because I came down quickly and hard with a stomach bug(along with my whole family ) that was causing me to vomit profusely(wasn't eating and water/gatorade would literally just come up).

I went to the dr today and he suggested I take today off to eat, rest, and get some liquids(and I'm still feeling a little rough, could probably work though) and got a drs note.

Anyways, I call the office and the management guy who addresses this stuff got all butthurt talking about how I call in so often, why am I sick so often, and telling me I gotta do something to be more healthy. I let him know that I'm not trying to be sick, and I am trying to be healthy(I eat well, sleep better than most college students). He then complained about how I did this on my last belt and now on this belt, as if it was related to the belt.

He sounded pretty annoyed by it; however, that's not what I'm really worried about, my union steward who I've talked to a few times(One time for a injury splitting my thumb open on a stupid roller, another for misloading a bag, and about two months ago for absences) and I asked him "Am I good with absences as long as I provide a doctors note" and he said "yes". Is this True?!

How common is it to get in trouble at a hub(that runs 90k-180k) for absences?

I legitamately call in when I feel I am too sick to work(or that I'll get others sick, as I have alread, twice on my new belt in the past two months). Missed a :censored2: ton of days about a month ago because I came in to work feeling under the weather(and it's super cold) and running myself into the ground; ended up getting a ear infection, sinus infection, an eye infection- and after it all cleared up the ear infection came back with vengeance in both ears. Top top it all off, This was the week before and during finals, and I was taking 14 credits(missed almost two weeks).

I called in two times non legitimately during the end of the summer when I was dating a girl and knew I was about to get laid(and I did :wink2:, alot)

I know that management will always try to harass/guilt trip you to try to get you to come in to do light work(I've fallen for that trick a couple times early in the summer/late spring last year with allergies; ended up doing normal work, not getting out early, and closing).

I really want to work, and almost came in today despite my doctors advice; but I think I need to make sure I'm as healthy as possible before going back so I don't get run down(and get sick again).

I can't afford to lose the job, or I'll be in :censored2: creek with school(Got a concussion last year that basically made me school-retarded and caused me to get bad grades, drop a few classes, etc, for a semester, so I lost a lot of scholarships and financial aid because my completion rate was too low despite doing really well last semester, and I got less aid than last year for something my parents forgot to do for me). I'm currently paying for my semester out of pocket and through my tuition reimbursement(I have a 4,000 dollar hold from my last semester, and this semester I have about 3,000 adding to that. SO I really need to keep this job for tuition reimbursement(the literal only reason the school let me take a class this semester) and the pay.

Could use any advice when it comes to calling in too, whether it be how to approach it, who to talk to, or what to do.

I don't know WTF you wrote, and I don't really care it's typical drama queen babble. I will offer you some free advice though since I wasted 42 seconds of my life I cannot get back because you made me click on your thread trying to be helpful to you.

I don't think you are school retarded at all, you're giving yourself WAY too much credit. You're lazy and should immediately be fired for the amount of excuses and absences you have taken and probably will take. Good thing Johnson and Johnson offers frequent coupons for vagesil, I have a feeling you will need to buy it in case quantities to get through life.

For some reason if you do not get fired, you should resign. Working here to pay for college is usually a wise thing to do but in your case, all you are doing is working at a crap job for crap wages to pay for a crap education that is not working out. You need to immediately quit wasting your money going to college, it is painfully obvious that it is not working for you in the slightest. If you don't believe me, ask anyone on here or those whom like yourself, also waste oxygen. Please be so kind as to tell us at least which college you go to so the members can avoid sending their loved ones there.

I got less aid than last year for something my parents forgot to do for me

You're old enough to work at UPS, old enough to get on here and bitch and moan about what a lazy slouch you are and how management is trying to fire you for being a lazy slouch, old enough to go to college, and last but not least, old enough to get your lazy ass out to a doctor so he could tell you to stay home and nurse your pootie but your parents are the reason you got less financial aid because of something THEY forgot to do.
WOW!

So just because 'Timmy' did it that makes it ok ??

Remember that you are a grown up now, make your own decision. Don't be a sheep, the company will slaughter you in a heartbeat! And there may not be a thing you can do about it.
