Raise in new contract

From the rumor mill...
Teamsters United trying for:
$5 raise effective Aug 1.
$7 in total incremental raise over the next 5 years. Avg $1.40 raise per year.

If they could make that happen, I'm getting my vehicle wrapped with the Teamsters logo.

Are they negotiating our contract? Hmmm they always claim to be separate from the IBT.

Teamsters United is TDU. They'll tell you whatever you'll believe.

My dad is a retired ups driver, he made almost all my games in the 80s if he didn’t take the airport run for over time.

That was because 9.5 was never an issue in the 80’s. Or even most of the 90’s.

We had very little residential back then. Deliver the businesses and then do pickups. Be done by 5.

They also wanted to keep you under 9-5 for two reasons.

Benefits was much cheaper back then so if people was working over 9.5 everyday it was actually cheaper to put in another route

They also wanted the lowest paid supervisor to make more than the highest paid driver

We are the muscle, they are the direction
Nope, you have it backwards.
I guess you would blame all of us for the pathetic 2018 contract even though it was rejected by the members?
Nope again, that sucked.
Our union BA’s used to wear suits back in the day, and the company feared them
Do you think it was the suits?
current members are pissed they are constantly sending things to panel
What should they do when the Company isn't willing to settle?

Perhaps the current members should file better grievances?
I’m not trying to blame the union or BA’s, they have an impossible job, but surely we can recognize a lack of respect from the company lately.
The membership is "the Union", and if the membership is weak, it doesn't matter who gets elected and walks into your building.
I stand by that assessment.

9.5 “quadruple” pay or whatever they want it to be doesn’t even matter. I seriously don’t understand why we don’t push for H&W paid on all hours worked. For FT and PT. Would cut out the excessive hours quick.

I have seen several versions (presumably photoshopped, some of them), but all insulting.

Longtime lurker here.

That leaked proposal… I understand it was supposed one on the low end all part of the process but that was comically low.

I’m PT and my 15 year anniversary is this October and I make 22.66 an hour. I’m hoping that we can finagle a catch up for guys that have been rotting on the vine such as myself. I’m also interested in pension and healthcare.

As for you FT guys I won’t be happy until you guys are. I hope we can get your issue’s settled.

Maybe. But the Company will never agree to not force anyone to work over 9.5. And the Union cannot force the company to do it.

The only thing the Union can do, and UPS reluctantly agreed to, is to make a penalty for it to "compensate" the driver. The Union is trying to make it cost prohibitive to UPS to force drivers past 9.5 except for unforeseen circumstances.

Not every job is 9-5. It might suck getting home at 8 or 9 at night, but that is the job. We cannot force UPS to start us earlier. If you wanted to make your kids baseball games after school, you picked the wrong job.

You start at 9:30 because UPS cannot get the trailers there and unloaded and processed sooner, for one reason or another. It would be nice to start at 8 and be home by 6 or 7, but that is pretty much dreaming.

Same here. It reduced the over 9.5 immensely. I don't think it will ever go away, but at $160/hr, I'll put up with it a little bit. Money is not everything, but I think it will continue to get better if the new language goes into effect.
How does the company ever say anything to a driver about overallowed? They use their system that dispatches our routes that’s how. If they can dispatch 9.5 they can dispatch 8. Just a few years ago we started almost an hour earlier. This system can be moved to whatever time they want…..ITS LOGISTICS. Money IS everything….I’d like to see you live without it.
