How many years in the army or whatever and you still think an AR15 is an assault rifle. Did you just wash cars there too?
I think I said a military style assault rifle. Fires the same round 5.56. Biggest difference is the civilian model is semi auto while the military model has 3 round burst. Don't think I ever used burst except when firing blanks. In basic training we had the older M 16 that were full auto. Had us load a 3 round magazine and fire on full auto to demonstrate that your first round was on target but the next two climb out of the paper.

Okay, he had a Smith and Wesson M&P 15 5.56 mm rifle with a 30 round magazine used for civilian and police. Classified as an AR 15 style rifle. Does that matter?
Yeah, it kinda does. You keep stating that he went there with a "military assault rifle". Which is a lie.

Big difference between a military assault rifle and a rifle that only looks like one..
Not to the person that was killed by either one. Tell me what is the difference? I know the military have specs that the civilian models do not. Maybe not as rugged but most civilian active shooters are only going to fire a few hundred rounds or like Kyle 8 rounds to kill 2 people and wound another.

Military--M 16---can shoot semi automatic OR fully automatic
Civilian--AR-15---"LOOKS LIKE" an M 16 but can shoot only semi automatic. One squeeze of the trigger -one shot. Basically nothing more than a hunting rifle with a wannabe look.

MANY hunting rifles, pistols and shotguns can shoot semi automatic but they are no where near being an military assault weapon.

I realize you have been out of uniform for a few years but for the last 30 years M 16 do not have full auto. Only 3 round burst. Also the Army has gone to the M 4 . More of a carbine with a shorter barrel and a collapsible butt stock. More like the weapon that Kyle used to kill those 2 people. Don't need full auto to kill a lot of people.

The old M 16 did have full auto capability but how often would you use it? Burn up a lot of ammo and can't hit nothing. This why the Army removed full auto and went to 3 round burst. Still a waste of ammo. I believe the Canadian Army models kept both full auto and 3 round burst.

After about a hundred or 2 of full auto the chamber would be so hot the rounds would just cook off as soon as you chambered a new magazine.
