It doesn't have to be a deadly weapon.
No requirement to flee, and use of deadly force only requires imminent death or serious bodily harm.

Why wouldn’t it be? Would the shooting of someone who’s trying to beat a police officer’s brains out with a skateboard not be justified?

I don’t think the question of whether a skateboard can be a deadly weapon will be a problem for Rittenhouse at all.

No one thinks about deadly weapons when someone is riding around on a skateboard. But when they're trying to cave your head in with one it can be as deadly as a lead pipe. I recall similar arguments about Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman. People saying Zimmerman shouldn't have shot Martin. Someone on top of you slamming your head into a sidewalk with no way of knowing if he'll stop before you're dead earns that guy a bullet.
