Great advice from Jonesy explaining the mid foot strike. I was always a heel striker but was told 10 years ago that heel striking was a braking mechanism. So I tried to strike more on the ball of my foot and calf injuries soon followed. I carry a lot of weight. I would love to mimic the elite runners, but I just can't do it without injury. I'm back to heel striking. But I'm still running.
My problem is the longer distances. I tend to get a bit lazy and settle in on my heels.

Vibrams are the crocs of the running world.
Better yet, Vibrams, are a croc.......

Hey, I ran 5 miles at 5am, and paced my buddy in a 5k race, at 7:30am, and I'm glad to say, I'm not hurting too bad. I concentrated on midfoot during the race, and alternated, mid to forefoot, during the earlier training run.

These things are ugly but amazing for running. I always wore the Brooks Beast being a heavy runner. But losing 100 lbs helped more than the shoes... Give these a try. They make a black on black suede/leather one that I wear at UPS. I have this color and one other for just wearing around.

Sweet! I've heard good things about these from some other people, as well. So how's your training coming along?

I dont how you guys do it. I dont have anything left for running when I park that car at the end of the day.
LOL, try doing it before work, when you have the most energy. Besides, who needs energy for THIS?

I think most of them run before work or use their lunch hour to run. I'm with you--by the time I get home all I want to do is sit in my recliner and watch TV (while browsing BC).
Nice!

First thing in the morning (after a cup of coffee). I'm with you at the end of the day, I usually have just enough energy to eat something, check out the BC, and pass out cold.

Going great. Still not the best at swimming. I've done two sprint tri's. Most fun ever. I agree with you, when you wake up is the best time to train. Whatever time that is. Some weeks for me its 10am other weeks its 5pm. Just get up and go before you change your mind. That's my mantra.

A lot of days I change in to my running/workout clothes before I even leave work. then I drive a mile to the gym, park my car, check in at the gym and hang up my keys, then turn right back around and head back outside for a run before I come back in and lift.
Within the next couple of weeks though I am going to go back to running before work so I make sure I get it in. Get up at 6-6:15, drop a duece, go for a run, in the shower by 7 and out the door after breakfast by 7:45 and on the clock at 8:30.

Definitely a must DOO, especially before a long run, LOL, unless you're like me and route yourself near bathrooms throughout the run.

I ran a five miler this morning and blew my right calf out a half mile from the finish. I hobbled into the woods to find a stick suitable to substitute for a cane, and finished.
I missed the start by more than 3 minutes and didn't pass the back of the pack until the three quarter mile mark.
I ran out of Jameson last night and switch to Dos Equis beer. I don't think there is a connection between Dos Equis beer and a blown out calf muscle. But I'll never do that again.
Stay thirsty my friends.
