Light 'em up!
Even if you are the majority, it's still your PO's call.
Correct. Although it may be unwise for a PO to go against what the majority wants.

Hmmmm???Correct. Although it may be unwise for a PO to go against what the majority wants.
Hmmmm???
The poll here is 22-9 for company seniority???
Haven't heard a single "good argument" why my 23 years as a "full time employee", humping bundles, should count for nothing if I bid into another "full time classification"?
"Because it's always been this way" is a tired Teamster premise that needs to go away.
It's high time we challenge many antiquated precedence's.
Let's concentrate on getting it right going forward.
It counts here. The poll here does not count. The members of Local 177 is what counts.
I am saying what my opinion is, and like you, my Local recognizes Company seniority.I never said what my opinion was. Our local has Company seniority. I was just responding to Inthegame who said "even if you are in the majority."
The Local 177 Executive Board should have the courage to do what's right going forward. The PO of Local 177 should listen to the majority of his members, not the members of Brown Cafe.
Define "majority"?And no, I do not know if he is in the majority or not.
He did say that the majority of 177 members what to change the seniority language in the contract and east backed it up with 250 signatures from local 177 members......the only problem is there are 8500 members in local 177.....250 is in no way the majority of local 177 membersIt counts here.

This thread/poll is on Brown Cafe and is not exclusive to Local 177...so most of that is irrelevant? He did say that the majority of 177 members what to change the seniority language in the contract and east backed it up with 250 signatures from local 177 members......the only problem is there are 8500 members in local 177.....250 is in no way the majority of local 177 members
429 signed a petition to want the change and 250 that didn't... You are right... Their are 8500ish members that we don't know yet based on the early numbers... That's why it needs to come to a vote...He did say that the majority of 177 members what to change the seniority language in the contract and east backed it up with 250 signatures from local 177 members......the only problem is there are 8500 members in local 177.....250 is in no way the majority of local 177 members

I believe the OP is from Georgia?
So you have been collecting signatures for a year now and have 429 do you feel that is the majority? There are 8500 members that get a vote......just so you understand majority will be 51%......you have 5%.....if you say 2000 people vote you still only have 25%.....and that if all 429 of your signatures vote.......and they won't be voting on this issue they will be voting on a contract429 signed a petition to want the change and 250 that didn't... 429 is just a dry run... The proposals is the real test... You are just going to have to wait...So you have been collecting signatures for a year now and have 429 do you feel that is the majority? The poll isn't asking what anyone wants, rather what system is currently in place in their location.Hmmmm???

...and you don't consider that a bellwether? The poll isn't asking what anyone wants, rather what system is currently in place in their location.
If BC polls are bellwethers, Fred Z is General President by a landslide....and you don't consider that a bellwether?
Apples and oranges, but nice try....and you don't consider that a bellwether?
Out of curiosity, how many package car drivers who have been there for 20-25 years end up going into feeders???The poll here does not count. The members of Local 177 is what counts.

That's what I would think....so the premise that all these old timers would go into feeders is pretty much a pipedream...I would say a few, but not very many. Unless it takes that long to get to feeders.
Some will stay in bundles to keep the day job, raise their kids, see football games, etc.
Once the kids are gone, they go for the easy job of pipedreamfeeders.
I still think the number is very low though.
The bids are all awarded by seniority, so the higher seniority drivers will get them. These are the ones that the kids are grown and gone. There isn't usually a need for a lot of feeder drivers at once so I think it works out that way. That's what I would think....so the premise that all these old timers would go into feeders is pretty much a pipedream...
