Tentative contract

There should be copies of the TA and supplements on www.tdu.org within a week or two.
We are missing a golden pension opportunity?

I'm just really surprised at the folks who didn't see this coming. Of course, there was going to be a deal, too much money not to reach a TA. It's about what I expected, $6-8 for RPCD's. I know the union was pushing for $1000 added to pension plan and they seem to have got everything they wanted, no reason that we didn't get this either. Am I happy with everything here, of course not, but it will probably pass. The PT pay isn't going to convince the competition to become Teamsters, but the FT pay may do it.

Says new part timers start at 21 and advance to 23, so until we read some language, it kind of sounds to me like that’s after the 30 days. It also says part-time wages will increase by double what they did in the previous contract… and current part timers will receive 48% average total wage increase in 5 years

All of this to me sounds like the part-timers will get a lot of raises and they didn’t release the numbers yet

You just complained about the givebacks we had last contract.

We got back the givebacks, plus some. Actually, plus a lot. And you say this is not any better or worse? How can this not be far, far above the last contract with all the givebacks?

It is better than the last one, but you're not hearing me.

Last contract shouldn't have passed, we gave things up and it was a little below par. This one we gained things back and it's a little above par.

When you average it out, it's....well, average. If we disregard the last contract and the 22.4 BS and we went from the 2013 contract (which was also just average) to this one, there wouldn't be much difference.

We've gone back and forth on this, but the simplest way to put it is this. I've been doing this job for 20 years. I had more buying power, as in this job provided a higher standard of living when I started, and that has slowly eroded over time. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way.

The wage increases are below inflation level. That equals yet more pay cuts. You can say 'but but but the pension might be increased' or whatever. Yeah, inflation also screws with that. I've heard it will go up $1000 for full time. YAY, by the time you retire, inflation will make that worth exactly what it is today.

I can't say this enough. IT'S NOT A WIN OR A RAISE IF INFLATION OUTPACES IT.

UPS, and all corps for that matter know what their expenses are. They have the numbers and they know they're not stagnant, they're constantly rising. For example, If you ran a company, and you saw all your expenses increase 10% across the board for the year, your prices would increase 10% but your labor costs going up 2, 3, even 6% would be a WIN. They may have gone up, but they went down, if that makes sense.

Not how i read it.

$18.50 + $2.75= $21.25 > 21

21.25 is not less than 21 the wage increase isn't 4.75 on top of 21. it's 21 is the floor after wage increase of 2.75.

Now add up to 1.50 catch up raise.

So like I said 22 and change.

So if you make 16.20 currently (16.20 + 2.75 < 21 so you get bumped to 21 + whatever part of that catch up UP TO 1.50 you get. Putting you slightly ahead of a new hire.
I took it as if you are an existing part time worker who makes under $21 an hour, you will be bumped to $21, and then get a $2.75 raise on top of that immediately, with another $4.50 over the contract

So this fight to the end was primarily over part time starting wage and long time part timer catch-up wages? And the best SOB could do was $21/start (which is less than some centers pay to start already) and $1.50/hour for ALL senior part timers? So the guy who has been a part timer with say 5 years seniority gets a $1.50/hour bump and another guy who has 15 years seniority gets the same $1.50/hour? It's a flat $1.50/hour no matter how many years? That blows for those who have been around for several years. The pay gap for long time part-timers and new hires continues to shrink under this proposal.

Where is the raise increase for 10+ year P/T he spoke about?

Real winners are friend/T Drivers and New Hires. Guys in the middle are screwed.
Just like last contract smh

I agree. Everyone 10-11 years and under makes about the same. Give or take “up to $1.50”. All that noise about rewarding long term members and it getting up to $1.50… 🤢

You want a toe? I can get you a toe.
$7.50 total, as described by the $49 avg at the end of the contract. I'm sure there are HWP improvements as per normal, so it's really on par with recent contracts. 18% over the life plus HWP improvements. PTers are making out like gangbusters here. Lifers maybe not as much, but overall it seems legit.
PTers that aren't hired yet are making out ok. The ones already working here for 10-15 years are getting the shaft

It all depends on if I’m reading it correctly or not, decides if I think it’s fair enough or not

At $18 an hour after over 10 years, I will for sure be getting a bump to $21 an hour as that’s the new minimum

Now do I get a $2.75 raise also on top of that? With a $1.50 on top of that would get a ‘yes’ vote from me

But if the $2.75 raise is added to my $18 and I go to $21 and then only get $1.50 raise from there is a ‘no’ for me
