People pay big bucks for fancy air tight caskets, why?

Funeral Directors have convinced the public over the years that you should spend BIG BUCKS to bury your loved ones. It used to be if you decided on cremation you could get by very reasonable---no more. Now they have got the cost of cremation jacked up comparable to full burial costs. The mark-up on caskets is humongous.. You can get the same casket buying it at Costco as what is afford at the funeral home for 2 or 3 times the price. Your best bet is to discuss all this dying stuff with your next of kin before hand and tell them to go as cheap as possible to remain legal when you die. When you are gone -you are gone and the cost of your funeral won't influence anything afterward other than how broke your family is.

My grandfather owned a trucking company in a small town and the funeral home wouldn't insure caskets because they didn't want anyone to know what they really paid for them.

60 Minutes (or one of those shows like that) did a segment on caskets awhile back and they spot lighten a few small companies who build caskets to sell to anyone on the internet. They were saying something like a $4,000 $5,000 casket at a funeral home could be bought off the internet for like $800 +maybe $250 shipping. They are actually made with real cheap materials with a little bit of fancy trinkets added.
