in fact none other then Obama attempted the same thing with the help of a private citizen setting up a back channel with Iran

In August 2014, Michael Ledeen, a former consultant to the National Security Council and U.S. Defense Department, penned a column at PJ Media stating Obama opened a back-channel to Iran during the 2008 presidential campaign. Ledeen said the back channel went through retired Ambassador William G. Miller, who also led the 1979 negotiating mission during the Iran hostage crisis. Ladeen wrote that Miller confirmed his back-channel involvement to him

Yep.
Jack Kelly mentioned that on MTP today and he told Todd it was nothing out of the normal. He mentioned 2 or 3 other presidents that had done similar.

So a true back channel, operating through a retired State Dept employee with great experience in the situation, is the same as trying to set up a secret server in the Russian Embassy?

Mmmkay.

A back channel that the intelligence community knew about or not? That seems to be the difference. The only reason they found out about Kushner asking for it was by spying on the Russians. That's espionage.

it was good timing on his part. I knew it had been done but google was throwing up nothing but the liberal attacks on trump. MSM now includes google too which always seems to steer you towards the anti conservative stuff

your sides argument has been that it was wrong because Kusher was a private citizen. Miller was also a private citizen when he acted on Obama's part.

I'm surprised you're even trying to defend this. Obama's sneakiness has been well documented over the years not to mention his blatant spying on media and private citizens.

Not sure of your point but I was curious as to which one you think is espionage?

might be both. that whole argument is totally ridiculous. espionage is not a transition team member meeting with and setting up future communications with foreign countries.
Are you guys saying that it's normal for transition teams to set up back channels with foreign countries in such a way as to evade US intelligence services? I haven't heard anyone suggest that previous presidents have done that.

Nobody ever did anything even remotely like what Kushner was allegedly trying to do. Anyone trying to say it was just business as usual is either being disingenuous or they just don't know what they're talking about.

It's interesting you frame it that way - 'you guys' were desperate to nail Obama or Clinton, and despite MILLIONS spent, no joy.

Now that we have an actual scandal in the making, you're crying like a B and bringing up Obama and Clinton.

Sad.

Well, put yourself in their shoes. They spent 8 long years trying to gin up something, anything, to pin on Obama and they came up empty. Now they finally get back in the WH and not even 6 months into it their guy is already neck deep with an FBI investigation, 2 Congressional investigations, and a special counsel appointed by the DOJ. And that's with a Republican controlled congress, can you imagine what it's gonna be like if the dems can win back either the House or the Senate in 2018? Get ya popcorn ready.
So yeah, put yourself in their shoes and imagine how angry and frustrated they feel. It must seem like a bad dream.
