My Dad also has an early 50's Bridgeport milling machine as well.
Single phase?The motor that drives his lathe is a WW1 era 2hp motor that previously drove a ventilator at a local coal mine.
You can usually find the stuff pretty cheap. Not many people use it anymore. When the machinist shops close lots of times stuff brings scrap value that's about it.
