Tooner Retired Today 1/3/17

Retired 23 years
I spent my first week of retirement planning a Retirement keg party / pig roast and the second week cleaning up. I think we went through 6 full size kegs---not those little things beer comes in now days.

No big plans. I won 50 bucks in the mega last night>
? Good sign? Got to have dinner with a friend I hadnt seen in ten years. I only worked a half day, so I was able to drive 2 hrs to see him, and have dinner. His daughter has cancer and is days away from dying, so I was glad we could give him some comfort.
I had many thoughts, of how I could leave a mark, all of them evil, but I digress. I was just happy, my kids are proud of me, I am healthy, I am blessed. I dont have any bad feelings anymore, just glad to be gone. I know I will terribly miss my guys, and girls, but Its not like I am dead, just moving on.
All of my buds were happy for me, a little jealous, but I honestly couldnt go any longer.
I got pictures of most, not all. and I made some of the best friends and worked with some of the best, high caliber individuals ever.
I even got a hug and best wishes from one management person, which was totally unexpected.
I feel brand new. My dog got me up at 6 am, I havent used an alrm in 8.5 yrs. I took her out in the crisp am air and thanked God, I didnt have to work outside, LOL.
So now I will have time, maybe get another dog, volunteer at a shelter, work a little pt job for beer money, lol. work on my house, work in my gardens, go visit my kids and grandkids more. Maybe take a jaunt out west with no schedule.
But for nowI am just basking in my freedom. I love ya all. thanks for the wishes!!
It will just get better and better as time goes on. It took me about 4 months to start to relax. I still thought of UPS a lot but after 6 months or so I hardly thought of them unless a co-worker called to complain or if it snowed out .......and then I would LOL.

The best thing is that the stress is all gone and you start to wonder "why did I let those bastards get to me? " That is the icing on the cake.

I still feel like it is Saturday every morning and jump out of bed looking forward to the day.

Congrats from the bottom of my heart. YOU MADE IT!

No party planned by me. I hear my children are planning one

I have to give credit where credit is due----My wife did 90% of the planning and I did the leg work (chairs, tables, circus tent, pig roast guy). Luckily a very good friend owned a beer distributorship so every time a keg ran dry he would have an employee run us out another one or 2. It started at 10 am on a Sat. and lasted through the night into Sunday morning. (Big bon fire--burned all my old Browns) Lots of people camped .

Congrats to Tooner!!! Enjoy your retirement. Enjoy your family and your dog(s).

You made it to the other side.... Cheers!!!
No sides ... sides are at UPS, not in retirement.

You know you are really retired when you no longer care if a person was in management or Union.
It's all silly stuff that is no longer relevant.

Congrats, 3wks from tomorrow I'll be doing the same. Stuck around for the same reasons that extra $200 will pay for my healthcare. This past year has been pure hell with the center going on Orion this summer and the stupid hours we were forced to work at peak. Just wish the pension issue wasn't looming on the horizon, as it put a hold on a few things I'd hoped to do for now. But I'm gonna sit back and let my investments grow till at least the 2018 contract is ratified and make my adjustments then. Good luck and enjoy a long retirement, you earned it.

Congrats Tooner!

The things that sound the best to me about retiring are being able to stay in a warm house with a good book while the snow and ice is coming down outside and cooking some extravagant meals that my wife and I never had time to make together while working.

You are retiring in 3 weeks and yet quite recently you gave a crap about ORION and say you were "forced" to work at peak......I have nearly 30 years in yet uncertain about retirement, and I could give a care about ORION (used it once)......and was never "forced" to work anything outlandish during peak. You people just kill me.
