Ups has a plan in place to replace us if we end up striking.

Funny the technology exists to make a strike easy, cell phones, facebook, text messaging, etc.
But I don't see it happening or being super effective, as there are just to many competing interests.
A lot of people would work anyway, few would actually be on picket lines, some would quit, some would just stay at home. Could work, but I mostly see nothing changing as a result of one.

The last company wide strike lasted just short of three weeks. VERY few employees crossed the line. Probably less than one percent. Of that one percent I would say three fourths of them weren’t with the company two years later. For some reason the company didn’t like scabs and found ways to get rid of them.
Things are a lot different now I don't put must trust in some of the workforce I see in there now

i imagine if a strike happened again we would basically just try to keep the NDA/EAMs moving
How would they fly the planes?

Goes both ways though, right? Company could target online/local ads/messaging at anybody with eyes on a computer or device if they needed temporary replacements. And offer some fat $$ (for somebody with nothing better to do anyway) while they’re at it.

and if they couldn’t, drop NDA and only run EAM and critical healthcare
And what shipper in their right minds is going to hand their time critical pigs to a company with striking pilots and mechanics? Not to mention drivers and sorters.

My guess is FedEx. Would be scooping up the volume and using all the contract pilots and airplane mechanics.

Same as 97. FedEx put it out there if you ship your pkgs with UPS, they will end up sitting in the buildings, not delivered. They really pushed the media on that. UPS tried to approach the Union that the shippers would sign contracts with FedEx and UPS would lose volume they would not recover after strike and therefore would have to eliminate positions. I remember going to a meeting in Louisville and the pilots were there and they promised to stand with us and honor the strike. And as far as UPS trying to deliver what was in the building when the strike started, most of the pkg cars being drove through the gates by management were empty. Just a show for the union that they were still delivering packages. Some packages were delivered, ones that customers put pressure on them because of how important that pkg was needed. The building was a mess when strike was over as many of us who were there in 97 seen when we came back into the bldg. Thing is, just like 97, Media is important. Our local media came out to our picket lines and interviewed the strikers and we were able to get our opinions on the air and newspapers. Under this contract, the impossible wages that a part timer has to survive on, the healthcare fiasco, the 6 day 70 hour weeks will all help persuade public opinion again. And now Social Media is a powerful tool.

I was working during the last strike at ups and from my point of view we gained nothing except for a few weeks of time off. This is a collective bargaining process and it will be give and take.some people are talking strike before we see any proposals.i feel a strike would be a very last resort. Stay calm, stay informed and don't be taken in by rumors .

Many part timers in my building are fed up with the workload and poverty wages. Expect a no vote from them unless they get $2-3 bump in pay.
