Terrible tragedy, but if it does come down to being all about the 9.5 list games that are played, I can totally see it happening. I have seen the hard feelings develop. I too the point of not taking an 8 hour just out of guilt. That and the fact that I know I will be the one that gets piled on the day after . GOD BLESS everybody in SAN FRAN

UPS isn't much different than most other large companies. The higher ups want to maximize their pay and stock options and don't really care about the average workers...we are all replaceable and in their own mind they are not. Anyway, working conditions shouldn't be able to make a person crack like this...if your job sucks that much then move on. People who do things like this shooter have to have been born with a mental defect, there is no way a normal person could ever justify this to themselves.

I haven't read this entire thread but personally hope the people making jokes about this situation are dealt a serious amount of karma in the near future. I'm sure some of the deceased have small children or grandchildren and the shooter robbed those kids of something money can never buy. I don't see anything funny about anything in this situation.

So a thread about employees being killed needs to be marked respectful? I guess that would tell most people all they need to know about members of this site.

Some feel speculating on the reasons this occurred is disrespectful. That's why there are two threads.
No long time members that I recall made jokes about this tragedy.

Missyblue-
May I suggest you call/click/VISIT (emphasis on VISIT) your states Insurance Commission regarding your husband's insurance being stopped.

You may also want to call/click/VISIT (emphasis on VISIT) the Dept of Labor, Wage and hourly division regarding the company not paying your husband.

You'll have to take the initiative on this. The company isn't going to take care of you and, as someone else mentioned, you may have to get an attorney.

Document everything. Dates, times, names and what was said.

My health insurance is managed by the union, not UPS.
I'm not sure if she is blaming the right people.

I'm acquainted with this.
If the company stopped payment to the union then the union will end his coverage......OR.....the company may have coded the employee wrong or just flat out lied and said the employee retired when employee didn't retire. I have known this to happen.

The employee needs to call/VISIT (emphasis on VISIT) the ladies in the front office at the union hall. They have contacts and stroke to make things happen. They will find out why the coverage was stopped and, if a mistake, can get it started again. I've known this to happen.

If all else fails, file NLRB if the trauma/injury was work related and the company has dropped the employee like a hot potato (which they will do).

The affected employee and spouse may have to ruffle some feathers to get things done.

.....I will add this:

The company intensely dislikes paying benefits for an employee they aren't getting any return (work/production) on, hence the insurance being stopped, "miscoded" or whatever "human error" you want to call it.

Your right!!! I just joined this sight tonight. Can't sleep. My husband is feeder driver. He was shot at on I70 in st Louis last year. He was not hit but blew out his Windows. He's not been released by his doctors. Suffers from PTSD. UPS made him go to work last week. I was terrified. They had him come in for 4 hrs last Friday. They haven't ask him back. They said they would give him 24 notice when they want him to come back in. They've not called him back, but he's a mess. More than 32yrs Service, 28 yrs safe driving and they took away our insurance and won't pay him earned vacation pay. Oh yes he filed a grievance but what a joke.
I wondering where is BA is? He should be storming the gates loaded for bear.

I read this entire thread and something to the effect of "I'm not surprised" or "I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often" came up 26 times.

This company seriously has to examine the culture that led to this tragedy.
we have been saying that for over 25 years. It all changed when the company went public. "Greed is Good" sign is over every door at Atlanta Headquarters.

Hourlies are just collateral damage.
