UPS Shooting- San Francisco (Rant & News thread)

UPS isn't much different than most other large companies. The higher ups want to maximize their pay and stock options and don't really care about the average workers...we are all replaceable and in their own mind they are not. Anyway, working conditions shouldn't be able to make a person crack like this...if your job sucks that much then move on. People who do things like this shooter have to have been born with a mental defect, there is no way a normal person could ever justify this to themselves.

I haven't read this entire thread but personally hope the people making jokes about this situation are dealt a serious amount of karma in the near future. I'm sure some of the deceased have small children or grandchildren and the shooter robbed those kids of something money can never buy. I don't see anything funny about anything in this situation.
joking about it is just a defence mechanism. don't judge too harshly. doctors in the ER do it. soldiers in the field do it. otherwise they would crack up.

I have great restraint. It's a choice. But chose early because if I see I'm standing too close to the edge of a drop off I move back.
And I also fear going to Hell for doing something like this guy did.

It's typically a permanent solution for a temporary problem.
There have been a couple of center manager's and on cars that were real pricks throughout my years at UPS. Would never have entertained the thought of shooting any of them.
Would have liked to crap on their desks though.

You want happiness-----go work at Google.
theres alot of other corporations where workers are happier than UPS. i work for one of them where somehow you can do as much work as you like as long as your part of the union. some of the workers at my job are especially militant and do 10% of the work of the others.

the fact is theres no shortage on this forum who will say UPS can be an awful company to work for; they just havent made the connection to the economic system corporate capitalism, which is centralizes decision making and profits for that matter.

Just started my 29th year and I still try my best to treat my management team with the respect and dignity that they deserve. This may be the military in me or perhaps it was the way that I was raised.

On a side note, our local news is reporting this as a possible terror attack. Idiots.
Did you go down to your local news station , start flashing around your ups id , and set them straight... tell them you were an off the street hire with 29 years in???

Let's hope our Teamsters-UPS contract negotiating group will finally tear up the 9.5 list and put stronger OT language.
All they would have to do is put OT = 2 x pay rate. That demolishes the route cutting permanently. In the current model, it's cheaper to pay OT than regular pay rate + health & pension.
I read this entire thread and something to the effect of "I'm not surprised" or "I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often" came up 26 times.

This company seriously has to examine the culture that led to this tragedy.
It might take a few more shootings for that to happen...they move slow here sometimes...

My health insurance is managed by the union, not UPS.
I'm not sure if she is blaming the right people.
If the PTSD was caused by the shooting out of his windshield the treatment and loss of wages should fall under workers' comp not the disability insurance by the Union. UPS tried the same BS with someone at our bldg. He had a mental breakdown which the doctor concluded was caused by his work. UPS would not pay and claimed it was not work related.

Well it took this catastrophe to get me to join this site.Just want to first say prayers out to all affected by the senseless shootings. But as a 33 year driver I can say that I'm really surprised it has taken this long for this to happen. Maybe the Annointed Ones in the Ivory Towers will realize that there is a finite amount of work you can squeeze out of a human being . Just 15 years ago I watched the the. 30 year driver leave the building in a 500,with 65 to 75 stops,I was going out with 105 to 115 in an 800,wall to wall,on a rural route. Thank God I am currently on vacation,at the end of my vacation is retirement.

Be forewarned, we have a few posters here who don't like it when wives of ups workers come here and post.

The wives who post then become then surrogate wives of these hooligans who will berate and denigrate these wife posters as a way to deal with the reality that they are CUCKOLDED husbands who wouldn't dare say one nasty thing to their domineering wives.

FACT!

Fun fact: I used the fun word for the day in my post.
Hooligans??? Maybe teamster thugs, but hooligans cross the line except in the case of @Monkey Butt and the green bastard @IVE GOTTA PACKAGE 4U ...

Am I the only one less than thrilled with MB's cavalier attitude throughout this thread?
Does it surprise you??? Maybe he's just trying to throw a little bit of laughter into a bad situation...it's always harder when one is in the direct area of events...still sad though...rip to all involved..
