I don’t really care about 22.4 but let’s be honest, cover drivers on Sunday the past 20 years? Yup weekends should be premium pay. But everyone has their eye off the ball with 22.4. Contract is being voted down because of existing part timers not getting a catch up raise only newbies and those not even hired yet.

Lol sorry but the contract will be voted down because of 22.4s not because of PT catch up raises. I agree they deserve a catch up raise but let's not kid ourselves it's the 22.4 language that has the best chance to stop this contract.

Not if this wakes up the part time vote. Remember the numbers. I know plenty of drivers that don’t give a crap about 22.4 because doesn’t impact them and may even give them pension security. So a good chunk of existing employees aren’t negatively impacted by 22.4. (Existing part timers and higher seniority drivers). If the turnout reaches the 50% threshold for first time ever, it’s because part timers.

There is a reason most of these calls and newsletters are about 22.4s. It's the big issue across the country. The existing PT workers haven't got a catch up raise in forever. Highly doubt they will be what pushes this contract over. Will it contribute, of course but it's mainly drivers that vote. So I'll agree to disagree.

wide load

Starting wage is a waste of time.
I disagree.

People are assuming, that people are going to be jumping on these jobs.

The prevailing thought is.... "good luck with that".

The company trying to exceed the 25% cap ?

Where are these people going to be coming from ?

Section 4. (a)

"Part-time employees shall be given the opportunity to fill full-time jobs before hiring from the outside on a six for-one basis (six (6) part- time to every one (1) outside hire)."

Good luck with that.

Who is going to train all these "off the street" hires ?

The companies subjective work methods and safety procedures....

Are going to be magically relaxed, to fill these jobs ?

The cart, is being placed in front of the horse.

So if our people refuse the jobs like you say they may (which I believe you 100%) and we exhaust the 6 for 1, won’t the company have go outside for the rest?

In my area the company can surpass the 1/6 if they've exhausted the list. They can still only field like 8 new drivers ever 2 months so the wait has been zero for a long time.

They can and they will hire from off the street, if there is not enough part timers that sign up.

....they already are here.

In my building, every supe in every Center has had a trainee all summer, most being disqualified for BS....many on their 29th day.

Make no mistake, the Company has a plan for these "soon to be 22.4 hybrid drivers" and they are building a talent pool as we speak.

What a shame....

I felt the last conference call explained a lot of the whining that goes on here. I mainly lurk for info but this whole I'm voting no because I'm mad and all the facts will be ignored until I'm happy, gets old. We have part timers that have been working full time hours for years now, very similar to the proposed 22.4. Yet they get zero benefit except a little more in pay check now. No overtime protection, no full time pension or health care, and don't start any progression. If 22.4 is the answer to the company's abuse of them so be it. If they want to use them to suck up some of my OT, so be it. I was originally against the cba because I was mad at the games the company plays, but I still showed up every day, so obviously it wasn't bad enough to leave. So with the improvements in some of the contract and the rest being the same, I'm willing to do another 5.

Look up on your own the effect that two tier wages has on unions. It's not a new thing and there is plenty of info out there on it.

It could still happen?

While it's true that I am 0 for 3, the truth is, I have really only made one true run at it.

The first time, I was an 11th hour replacement candidate for a part time position on a sinking spit incumbent ticket, that in hindsight was doomed from jump.

The second time (the only time my efforts were in earnest) was for the wrong, self centered reasons....and with the wrong people.
I compromised myself and my principles to chase misplaced goals and ambitions.
I knew better, but did it anyway.
Losing by 12 votes for the VP spot was probably a blessing in disguise, as well as poetic justice.
That group actually appointed an additional BA subsequently and offered the job to me 3 times, but I declined because I refused to put my name next to SB's (again).

The last time, I ran for Secretary Treasurer on a last second "screw the pooch" slate in order to ensure SB would lose....and he did.
That was the penance I needed to pay and am now as square as I can be with the House.

Perhaps next Fall the fickle hand of fate (coupled with a lot of hard work, past and present) will see fit to give me my shot???
Either way it has been a tremendous experience, swimming up stream as a steward and union advocate, which has afforded me many opportunities to learn things about life, people, and myself.

The friends, acquaintances, and memories I have made in this arena are priceless.
I look forward to many more, one way or another, before I am inclined to step aside.
