Strange how the sell outs get the most pay and benefits.
Nah, you can be a scab an get more or less. Depends on where you work.
Screwing others to better yourself is the issue. Is that why some get better?

People say that UPS’s inaugural building is a sell out, yet they get some of the best pay and benefits.

No maroon, Im not cool with it, nor should you be, we here in the south, have had cover drivers longer then you, our genius Local president was the one who came up with the idea! And it disseminated to the whole country in ‘97. But its a part time job, was always meant to be a part time job, however, as usual, UPS bastardized the language and uses it way beyond the scope of is intent! Down here, they give people extra days off and bring in a cover, they use more covers then number of people that are off, and get away with almost all of it! But atleast as a cover, they have options, they can say “Nope, dont want to work today”, and atleast there is a path to RPCD...get 156 reports, add a full time driver(we had five last year). Give them 22.4 and its yet another step to “citizenship” for the part timer...they use and abuse BOTH languages.
So your arguement that “Ahh what the hell let’s give them 22.4s we already gave them TCDs” is quite pathetic. Why would I give them more of something they abuse already?

I would argue a 22.4 is an improvement to cover drivers.

Same issues here, but LagunaBrown thinks everything is rosey and we need 22.4s as well.

So, moving on from cover driving after 6 months is a guarantee? How long you think these guys are going to be languishing in 22.4 classification? Sure some will move on quickly, but if youre in a relatively young center with no one retiring and the economy stagnates, you could be a 22.4 almost your whole career!
We've had many guys at cover for over 10 years in my building. This is one of the many reasons they want it. Why would they promote anyone when they can just meet with Denis T and change the ratio after ratification? That IS in the TA.

We got a grievance paid for those cover driver mistakes for $30,000 in pay and penalties. They already work year round with no 9.5 protection and part time pension. If you use it to your advantage you can go cover driving for 6 months you get red circled at 75% of top rate and that is way higher than RPCD progression. You can tben go to 22.4 and earn RPCD progression time and full time pension of $129,000 over the 5 year contract. There are many part time guys that would love that job. If you vote no your keeping a two tier driver at 10 dollars less an hour and part time pension. Essentially your voting no to get less than a 22.4.
Again, there isn't supposed to be any cover drivers working except to cover days off ONLY. You're saying since our union is failing at enforcing the contract that we should change the contract so that it's not being violated. We keep going backwards.

Mmm I don’t know about that
You would if you were listening to them instead of Andy. Do all your member have contract books? go to all your cover drivers and let them read the cover driver language. Tell them how if we were actually going by our contract they would already have REAL full time jobs. Which do you think they'd rather have? Then, take into account that they are not honoring our current contract what do you think they will do with this?

What I'm asking is how are they avoiding members at your area. Just curious.
You mean the BA"s? Stewards?
It could still happen?

While it's true that I am 0 for 3, the truth is, I have really only made one true run at it.

The first time, I was an 11th hour replacement candidate for a part time position on a sinking spit incumbent ticket, that in hindsight was doomed from jump.

The second time (the only time my efforts were in earnest) was for the wrong, self centered reasons....and with the wrong people.
I compromised myself and my principles to chase misplaced goals and ambitions.
I knew better, but did it anyway.
Losing by 12 votes for the VP spot was probably a blessing in disguise, as well as poetic justice.
That group actually appointed an additional BA subsequently and offered the job to me 3 times, but I declined because I refused to put my name next to SB's (again).

The last time, I ran for Secretary Treasurer on a last second "screw the pooch" slate in order to ensure SB would lose....and he did.
That was the penance I needed to pay and am now as square as I can be with the House.

Perhaps next Fall the fickle hand of fate (coupled with a lot of hard work, past and present) will see fit to give me my shot???
Either way it has been a tremendous experience, swimming up stream as a steward and union advocate, which has afforded me many opportunities to learn things about life, people, and myself.

The friends, acquaintances, and memories I have made in this arena are priceless.
I look forward to many more, one way or another, before I am inclined to step aside.

Why are you so zealous and high and mighty now? That language has been in for 20 years. I have made group text and sent the language to the cover drivers. Now that a 22.4 comes up you care? Really?

It's an expansion on cover driver language. They obviously thought to make it sound appealing. What you need to focus on is it's a massive downgrade from a REAL FULL TIME DRIVER. That's what they need under our current language.
You need to put it in context. RPCD’s did not want to work weekends, they wanted relief of O/T and 33.4’s protects M-friend workday workweeks. What you are asking for in eliminating the 22.4 is exactly how it was and everyone complained. Just admit it, you guys are never happy.

I don’t really care about 22.4 but let’s be honest, cover drivers on Sunday the past 20 years? Yup weekends should be premium pay. But everyone has their eye off the ball with 22.4. Contract is being voted down because of existing part timers not getting a catch up raise only newbies and those not even hired yet.
