What would you be doing if not driving for UPS?

You got that right,how could I forget that . Looking back on those days that I wanted to quit . Just over whelmed with to many stops and to many miles to go. That pension makes it now worth it . We make more in retirement than a lot of people working 40 hour a week jobs . Thanks for the reminder !

I have a double major in finance/economics. Spent two years at a very nice brokerage firm. Hated every day, so went back to hospitality. Worked my way up at a very nice restaurant and parlayed it to an Food&Beverage manager at a high end country club. Did that for 5 years till the stress became too much(every event was 100k plus and employees never showed up). Tried my own business after that was mildly successful but insurance cost were getting out of hand. So tried seasonal driving at UPS(hardest job of my life) Hours maxed out every week. Body hurt daily and on my one day off I did nothing which pissed the family off. But strangely liked the job.

5 years later I have a nice route with zero stress. I really like my job. Even when dispatch messes it up. It's still a super easy zero stress job. I do know I got lucky and never had to do the p/t route. Doubt I'd be a driver if I had to do it that way

The job isn't for everyone, but once you can get to the "it'll get done when it gets done" phase. It's really friend@#king easy

You said a mouthful when you said "the job is not for everyone" . It takes a special breed to be in that UPS truck . Over my 34 years I can remember quite a few that just could not hack it . One really comes to mind. We had this new guy on this training run trying to get his 30 days in. It was a mall run, he was put in the biggest PC in the bldg (and he needed it) The PC must of had 600 or so pieces on it. He told me that morning before the pcm that I can't do it . I tried to encourage him and said we all when thru this process to get where we are . Ten minutes later at the pcm they (management ) was looking for him and one of the drivers said he is walking out the door . We never saw him again, it took 2 on car sup to to run that route that day . Some make it some don't !!!!!!!!!

I think about this a lot while I’m driving around and going into different places and business. I started doing this right after I graduated college and have been at it for about 5 years. I kind of regret not gaining any real skills. Don’t get me wrong I know this is a very good job but if I ever found myself in need of another job I wouldn’t know where to look. What would you guys be doing if it wasn’t for UPS?

You are gaining all kids of real world experience at UPS.
The world is full of pain and suffering just like UPS.

What would I be doing if money was no object. I graduated from Mount Mary College in Milwaukee in 1995. I took the MCAT and the LSAT. I scored high.
There were no jobs out there. There were no part-time jobs out there. I am where I am because money was an object.

I don’t know where you’re seeing that but OK. Still doesn’t take away from the fact, I doubt you’re ever gonna be in front of arbitrator for your job.

In my experience, the only people who really get fired here are those that are completely ignorant or really want to be fired. Don’t really see you as either of those.

I have been involved with the cleanup of a shotgun suicide, and another of a person who drank himself to death.

I would only do that for a living if I was unlucky and desperate.

I am also very much under the impression that it pays alot less than a reasonable person would expect.

I got family friend and family who are involved in it. They make around the same as me with less benefits of course and no pension.

It’s reasonable to hop into if you need quick income replacement for a job like UPS.
