Who is Obama

MCCain will win if he can convince the american people that he is the guy that will actually form bi-partisan coalitions to fix problems. Soccor mom adds a little excitement and some entertainment but ultimately it comes down to John McCain.

Clearly the guy is not a conservative but he has been somewhat of a maverick as he tries to tell us. I'm actually intrigued by seeing what he could do with his perspective and style. I do think he would be some of what he claims in his speech the other night. this guy does march to his own drummer and with his age I think he will skip a lot of the games parties normally play.

I loved Sarah Palin but the thought of her being president with her level of experience is almost as scary as having Obama with his.

Ultimately I think the american voters frustration with bi-partisan politics is driving this election and supplying us with the candidates we now have.

Bon Appetit?

John McCain is a Maverick and wants to show Sarah Palin Washington. He can barely walk let alone take someone on a tour for 4 years! This country is already crawling....John McCain is a great great Man but too old!

I'm sorry to say that I just can't imagine having a soccor mom being our Commander and Chief!

And for Barrack? If a Harvard Graduate cannot run this country I'm not sure anyone can! He promised to cut taxes for small businesses, not raise them!

Yes lets not talk about the fact she is a governor of a very large state. Or that she sells the crap we dont need on ebay. Or that she suspended the gas tax, when Alaskas account was overflowing instead of finding new and cute ways to spend the $$$. Yes she was just a mayor of some small redneck little town, in some out of sight out of mind place, far far away...............
when we are shown and proven that she did something dastardly, I may change my opinion. Until then keep digging.
While we are digging, lets not forget what has already been exposed. A slick talking Willie that never accomplished anything, yet is living the American dream, in a great house, in a suburb of Chicago with a higher death toll related to shootings than Iraq this past summer.
I agree with the "pundants", Lets withdraw from Chicago.

he is promising a lot of things. One is a repeal of the Bush tax cuts. if he repeals the bush tax cuts he would actually raise taxes on the middle class. I believe someone posted the comparison here previously?

It's almost comical! This VP pick has the Dems running scared. They are trying to pick apart her personal life.

WHY, you ask?

Because they really can't attack her professional life. Doing that would only emphasize how much more qualified she is than Obama.

Gee, ToonerII.....you have high standards for the men in your life. You must be one lucky hombre to find one that met your specifications:wink2:

I guess a wealthy rich guy must consider "middle class" as making 250K plus.

Just curious since your the senior member in here....Just how do we pay down our trillion gazillion dollar debt that we (I mean republicans) put on our bar tab?

plus.

From 2000 to 2004, the share of all individual income taxes paid by the bottom 40% of taxpayers dropped from 0% to -4%, meaning that the average family in those quintiles received a subsidy. The share paid by the top 20% of households increased from 81% to 85%. And again with this years tax rebates many of the poorest of the poor will recieve rebates even though they have not been paying income taxes. All they have to do is file.

I'm not the senior member but appreciate the thought.
Grow the economy my friend. Don't let Obama jack up everyones taxes and stifle her or you and I will be washing dishes on that bar tab forever.
i believe JFK was the first president to try that trickle down thing of cutting taxes and thus spurring growth? I wonder if the democrats accused him of catering to the rich when he did it.

While we are sharing our economics theories slanted by our own perspectives how do you reconcile your belief with the following article that seems to give some genuine details on where the bush tax cuts helped out those other then the rich:

http://www.heritage.org/research/taxes/wm956.cfm

Is it true those in the 10 percent bracket would go to 15 if repealed?

Is it true the marriage penalty would return if the Bush cuts are repealed?

How about the tax on dividends that Obama plans to jack up? Would it not be safe to say we have many senior citizens heavily invested in dividend producing stocks that would suffer?

Her professional life:

In 2006, Ketchikan's Gravina Island Bridge, better known outside the state as the "Bridge to Nowhere", became an issue in the gubernatorial campaign. Palin initially expressed support for the bridge and ran on a "build-the-bridge" platform, arguing that it was essential for local prosperity.[74] After the bridge became a political issue Congress replaced the earmark for the bridge with an infrastructure grant to Alaska to use at its discretion; Palin's subsequent policy was to continue construction on the road originally intended to link to the bridge while exploring less-expensive transportation between Ketchikan and Gravina Island.[75][76][77]
Palin made national news when she stopped work on the bridge. Reuters said the move was responsible for "earning her admirers from earmark critics and budget hawks from around the nation. The move also thrust her into the spotlight as a reform-minded newcomer." In an article titled, "Bridge leads McCain to running mate Palin", the Associated Press said canceling the bridge was "the first identifiable link connecting Palin and McCain," soon followed by "whispers of Palin being an ideal GOP running mate".[78][79]
In 2008, when introduced as McCain's running mate, Palin told the crowd, "I told Congress, thanks but no thanks on that bridge to nowhere" — a line that garnered big applause but upset political leaders in Ketchikan. Palin's campaign coordinator in the city, Republican Mike Elerding, remarked, "She said 'thanks but no thanks,' but they kept the money." Democratic Mayor Bob Weinstein also criticized Palin for using the very term 'bridge to nowhere' that she had said was insulting when she was in favor of the bridge.[80]

Sounds like fuzzy politics to me over 9.5er and if you want this bridge to go nowhere vote for her! But I don't think this country needs someone in favor of something and then not in favor of something on your tax dollars! "Build the bridge platform" Her own platform and then she stops the Build the bridge platform. If you want this country to run on build then don't build, go for it!

C'mon, Paidslave! You pick one issue that she changed her mind on. Didn't Obama recently change his mind and decide that the troop surge is working??

We were talking about experience.

Palin has run a state with thousands of employees. What has Obama run? Oh yeah...nothing.

Palin has balanced budgets. How many budgets has Obama balanced? Oh yeah....none.

Palin has voted on issues. Obama has voted "present" over 130 times. Just what does he stand for? No one knows because he rarely chooses a side. (Just "present").

Why wouldn't a good Teamster such as yourself vote for McCain?

Through his family, McCain employs Union people. How many Union people does Obama employ? Oh yeah....none.

Palin was in the Union, and her husband still is. What union did Obama and his wife belong to? Oh yeah....none. In fact, Mrs Obama until recently worked as some kind of consultant to Wal Mart (you know Wal Mart, right? Big time anti-union company).

You're on the wrong team, Slave.

Here's a little more about her term as mayor:

Her experience is as mayor of a city with a population of about 5,000 (at the time) and less than two years as governor of a state with about 670,000 residents.
During her mayoral administration, most of the actual work of running this small city was turned over to an administrator. She had been pushed to hire this administrator by party power-brokers after she had gotten herself into some trouble over precipitous firings, which had given rise to a recall campaign.
Sarah campaigned in Wasilla as a "fiscal conservative." During her six years as mayor, she increased general government expenditures by more than 33 percent. During those same six years, the amount of taxes collected by the city increased by 38 percent. This was during a period of low inflation (1996-2002). She reduced progressive property taxes and increased a regressive sales tax, which taxed even food. The tax cuts that she promoted benefitted large corporate property owners way more than they benefited residents.
The huge increases in tax revenue during her mayoral administration weren't enough to fund everything on her wish list, though — borrowed money was needed, too. She inherited a city with zero debt but left it with indebtedness of more than $22 million. What did Mayor Palin encourage the voters to borrow money for? Was it the infrastructure that she said she supported? The sewage treatment plant that the city lacked? Or a new library? No. $1 million for a park. $15 million-plus for construction of a multi-use sports complex, which she rushed through, on a piece of property that the city didn't even have clear title to. That was still in litigation seven years later — to the delight of the lawyers involved! The sports complex itself is a nice addition to the community but a huge money pit, not the profit-generator she claimed it would be. She also supported bonds for $5.5 million for road projects that could have been done in five to seven years without any borrowing.
While Mayor, City Hall was extensively remodeled and her office redecorated more than once.
These are small numbers, but Wasilla is a very small city.

The above is from a letter written by Anne Kilkenny. Snopes just got a hold of it Friday, they have verified that it's authentic in so far as Ms Kilkenny really is a longtime resident of Wasilla and really did write the letter, but beyond that they haven't doublechecked her numbers(yet). This thing is making the rounds so I assume that someone will do that fairly soon. I could care less about the personal stuff, she and Ms Palin clearly aren't drinking buddies, but if her figures are accurate and not just half of the story, then it might be interesting.

Palin hasn't even completed half her term as Gov, she's still a work in progress. Her mayoral experience is but a tiny speck of the size of Obama's campiagn staff and budget. Holding a Havard law degree and specializing constitutional law is not running an office nor is Obama's legislative experience in holding office in Illinios at both the state and federal levels. But these are qualities that supply you with knowlegde and good judgement. For example, the disrespect at the GOP party shown (specifically Palin and Guliani) towards "Community Organizers" was very poor judgement and she'll have to answer that statement soon enough...lol

Palin has balanced budgets. How many budgets has Obama balanced? Oh yeah....none.

Jones beat me to the punch......But if she's VP and over budget, she could sell our friend-22 raptors on E-bay

She has a newborn that has downs syndrom and both parents need to spend alot of time raising this child together. If by a miracle she should happen to win and i do mean miracle how much time will she have to spend addressing the special needs of this child?

Apparently you are not aware that millions of moms pump in order to return to work and still feed breastmilk. Lots of places let the mom bring the baby to work and nurse there.

Building a bridge and fighting a war are by far two different comparisons. We are talking about lives that are being lost as we speak. And you might change your mind after you see the bodie bags coming back as we speak!
We were talking about experience.

Palin has run a state with thousands of employees. What has Obama run? Oh yeah...nothing.

Obama is a State Senator is case you forgot!

Palin has balanced budgets. How many budgets has Obama balanced? Oh yeah....none.

You or I would be able to balance a budget if you were pumping oil like Alaska is!

Palin has voted on issues. Obama has voted "present" over 130 times. Just what does he stand for? No one knows because he rarely chooses a side. (Just "present").

Obama is for all the people and this is why he doesn't choose a side. He tries and make things fair for everyone and not just special interest groups like the OIL tycoons!

Why wouldn't a good Teamster such as yourself vote for McCain?

If you listened to his speech McCain said he will stand up to UNION bosses!

Through his family, McCain employs Union people. How many Union people does Obama employ? Oh yeah....none. O

Oh sure he does! Where and what companies?

"What apparently has Walmart executives' panties in a snit is the belief that if Obama becomes president it's more likely that its employees will unionize, which is something the notoriously stingy employer fears. Walmart's reputation as a lousy employer is legendary. Charges of low wages, poor benefits and overall workplace mistreatment have plagued the company for years." At issue now is a bill, co-sponsored by Obama and opposed by the GOP's presumptive nominee, Sen. John McCain, that could force the retail giant's hand and serve to appreciably lighten its pocketbook. The measure, called the Employee Free Choice Act, would allow unions to organize workplaces without secret ballot elections, thus making it much easier to turn companies from non-union to union. Should this happen at Walmart, it would cost the company bazillions, eating into its sizable earnings. Wal-Mart recently reported first quarter 2008 profits of over $3-billion, a 6.9% increase over last year. Our collective hearts bleed for them, huh?
http://ostroyreport.blogspot.com/2008/08/walmart-dictatorship-vote-mccain-or.html Read the entire Ostroy Report report for yourself!

You are on the wrong side! McCain is against the UNIONs and opposes Walmart from UNIONIZING!

Palin was in the Union, and her husband still is. What union did Obama and his wife belong to? Oh yeah....none. In fact, Mrs Obama until recently worked as some kind of consultant to Wal Mart (you know Wal Mart, right? Big time anti-union company).
