Man I would hate for some of you to have to work hard jobs with actual unsafe hours.
If you do not think a sleep deprived driver is a safety issue, I do not know what to tell you.

I was almost at 60 yesterday and I wasn't as focused as I should be.If you do not think a sleep deprived driver is a safety issue, I do not know what to tell you.

If you're that tired pull over to sleep and take extra meal. I know many feeder drivers who have taken an extra hour or two on a leg that isn't hot.
Do this every day and you'll have enough hours left to work Sunday at double time.
There is no way I could take a hour snooze. I would feel worse because of it.
I did nothing real bad. I just noticed a few mistakes like you did. I've been on my route for a very long time. For me to pass up a stop, I know something is wrong.I worked 59.75 hrs this past week.
By Wednesday I found myself occasionally rolling right by houses. By Thursday I had to backtrack at least 10 times to stops that I drove right by because I had zoned out.
If a cop was following me when I was driving home at 11:30 every night, I am certain they would have pulled me over. I basically felt like I was driving impaired (not that I know what that feels like )
No, the DOT did not relax the rule!I was told by our Business Agent and our DM that the DOT relaxed the rule for peak and only centers with Saturday Ground can use the 70 hour rule.
This. DOT does things like when Irma hit here they relaxed the weight restrictions on tankers hauling fuel. No, the DOT did not relax the rule!
The rule has been there for quite a while.
The company decides (at any time, doesn't have to be Peak) when/if to go to 70 hours.
I drive an hour to and from work and rarely feel sleep deprived. Like I said bunch of whiny snowflakes blowing out of purportion. If you do not think a sleep deprived driver is a safety issue, I do not know what to tell you.
Exhaustion is waking up at 5:45. Out the door at 6:30. Punching out at 11:00. Pulling up to the house at 11:45 eating something. Laying in bed sometime after midnight for a solid 5 hours of sleep. Repeat that all week. By the end of the week I was done. They didn't say anything to us about the 70 hour rule. I had to be off the clock by 4 yesterday. If they say next week we are on 70. I'll just do 14 hour days mon-fri.I don't get all the posts talking about exhaustion...don't you guys have helpers walking off most of the stops? I'm not trying to be a jerk but this is only for a month. Exhaustion is going through basic training and getting 5 hours of sleep with an hour of fire guard duty every night.
I can't believe no one has mentioned milking out the 70 when it gets slow. In feeders we are allowed to max our hours if contractors are being used. Package is going to catch up in most places, when it slows down buildings using PVD drivers or whatever they are called should demand workwhen there isn't any, isn't a PVD a fancy way of saying contractor for delivery? Just a thought.
I'll agree the year long excessive hours is uncalled for. And I think that's what upsets people about this. But that's not what we signed up for here.
Why are you waking a 6 am when you have a 9 am startExhaustion is waking up at 5:45. Out the door at 6:30. Punching out at 11:00. Pulling up to the house at 11:45 eating something. Problem is that it’s no longer just a few weeks out of the year. If it is for you than consider yourself lucky but out in the 287 we’ve been pushing max hours all year. So no, I don’t care about their inability to properly plan or prepare for the exponential growth of E-commerce. There’s not one stop or customer on my route that is more important than my family.I drive an hour to and from work and rarely feel sleep deprived. Like I said bunch of whiny snowflakes blowing out of purportion.
It's 4-5 weeks worth of work for Christ sake.
It shouldn't bit this is probably a test for the rest of the year. Probably why UPS started Saturday ground in the first place. Let's get that 70 clock rolling and cut more routesI'll agree the year long excessive hours is uncalled for. And I think that's what upsets people about this.
A few extra hours for a few weeks out of the year shouldn't be that big of a deal.
That's what I will agree with.Problem is that it’s no longer just a few weeks out of the year. If it is for you than consider yourself lucky but out in the 287 we’ve been pushing max hours all year. You know it's funny with everything that's changed the last few years if I were leading negotiations I'd be licking my lips. This should be a very good contract for us. Yet I have zero confidence in Hoffa. It shouldn't bit this is probably a test for the rest of the year. Probably why UPS started Saturday ground in the first place.
