Hazard pay is a bit ridiculous at this point. Ive touched more chinese packages than a Wuhan hooker in the past 6 months without wearing a mask, eating lunch without washing my hands (though I usually keep the food in the paper wrapping to be fair), constantly touching my face, and I am Kung Flu free. If we were delivering to Chernobyl, ok. But theres too much hype around this thing to be considered a real threat as far as Im concerned. If a raise should be given for anything it should be the doing two days of work in a single day, 6 days a week... meanwhile at UPS the supes all got raises for sitting in air conditioning all day god bless their hard working fingers

It will be fine

You sound like a contractor that appreciates his hardworking employees. Which is all I'm looking for tbh. We don't get peak bonuses either.
Shop around. There’s plenty of decent contractors if you like the work. If you’re in a metro area there are tons of options. Not all contractors can afford the same compensation packages. Some are heavily in debt, some are just bad at business.

I agree that it's pointless now. But if extra money was given to you intended to be given to your employees and you pocket it. I don't agree with that

I think it's more greed than anything in this case.

Who gave out the extra money, and why didnt they just give it straight to you guys instead of the contractors?

Anyways, I want to feel bad for you but just like in poker, if you bluff, and someone calls your bluff, you lose your money. Same in business. That was a bold move on your part Ill give ya that, but you shouldnt be shocked at all that, as a manager of a business, he has decisions to make on how to get the job done. And if you suggest that you quit... welp, *shrug*

But I will say, any job that hasnt given a raise each year, even a small raise, usually isnt gonna be worth staying at. None of us are getting younger, and the cost of living is only going up. Plus with all these bailouts in the trillions of dollars, the amount of taxes that are going to be taken out in the future is gonna make us feel like we're in a socialist country anyways

It want intended for anything. It was to help compensate for the unexpected surge in volume. I used some of it to keep my employees content during a crazy time. I used some for more equipment and more drivers. The hazard hasn’t changed since they took it away, if anything it’s gotten worse.

I’ve found many of the contractors that seem greedy are just bad at math and don’t really know how to run a business. They’ll waste tons of cash cleaning up problems and never spend anything to prevent them.

You used it for the right reasons then. A small raise would shut all us drivers up.
I forgot to add. A driver threatened to walk a couple years ago and got a solid raise. Only time I've seen a raise given out here.

I didn't quit or get fired. I'm just saying I know I'm on his hit list now. So I have to prepare myself.

Yeah I would def find a new contractor if I was you. Try to make up for lost time. Or go to work for UPS. Same thing I told a USPS person the other day: Find a small center boasting explosive growth and youll be driving in less than a year. I went driving in 9 months and that was pre-covid. Now we're putting 2 drivers on every week

You work for UPS? Those hours seem grueling tho. I see the guy in my area still delivering at 8pm.

5 years at Ground he can look around and try to get a management job for a contractor. That’s the best way to increase compensation working for a Ground contractor. With 7 day operations there are plenty of those openings now. Offer to run the weekend and he instantly becomes valuable.

Only til 8? Hes lucky. Im pulling 12 hour days 5 days a week. By the time Saturday rolls around Im usually nearly out of hours so I only get a couple hours. But Id say no more grueling than what you guys are going through. Id imagine that you all deliver more irregs than we do since its cheaper to ship through FedEx. If it costs $100 to ship something heavy through FedEx and costs $200 to ship through UPS, guess who 90% of the ppl are gonna choose as their shipper? And honestly, hate to admit it but usually when I have something getting shipped to me I choose FedEx too lol. For that reason. The only time I dont is when the shipper makes the decision.

But the big differences are, the pay is fair, the benefits are outstanding, pension, union protection*, progression pay, top rate pay for all drivers after 4 years plus raises to account for cost of living, and a brown uniform so when you :censored2: your pants working 12 hours a day no one can tell

They keep telling us its gonna get better, and I do believe the center manager is making an effort by hiring 2 drivers a week, but we're coming up on the season when alot of drivers are gonna be going on vacation, so alot of these new hires are merely going to be covering those drivers, and its gonna end up translating to ppl like me going to take stops off of them after my day... But at least theres that versus just crushing us with volume.

Really the shattiest part is feeling like I have to go in an hour and a half early to go through my truck because my loader must be related to Helen Keller w :censored2: on every shelf except for where its supposed to go...
