I would bet your favorite MC dealer sells ear plugs.
I know several people that wear them.

Proactive skill? Keep in mind that at 60 MPH you are moving 88 ft/sec:
By the time you:
-recognize the threat;
-deny that it is happening to you;
-move feet/hands to appropriate levers/pedals and;
-apply appropriate force.....

how far have you traveled?
ANJSWER: multiple 88 ft/sec times 2-3 seconds.

Sound travels much faster than you.
I think he meant predictive rather than proactive. If you ride enough, you develop it.

As a rider , I have come to the realization it’s just a dangerous activity that is pleasurable to me. Smart phones make things even worse now.

When the kids were small, I sold my bikes because I was the breadwinner I couldn’t afford to get hurt or killed.

Last one graduated this year and wife gave me the hesitant OK.
I really enjoy a ride around the many lakes here every day I can. My wife on the other hand enjoys a leisurely ride through the farm lands south of us so we get all kinds of scenery on our rides. I have come to realize that riding a motorcycle keeps me younger and more mentally aware than just driving a car. You have to be SO much more aware of your surrounding -- much more than in a car. I'm not saying you can just zoneout in a car but on a motorcycle you HAVE to be on your toes at every intersection, driveway and watch every car coming at you to be prepared to take evasive action in a split second. There is very seldom a week goes by that I don't have to get on the brakes because some idiot will pull out without looking. Sundays seen to be the worse, after church gets out. I chalk it up to the idiots that are drunk on god and not paying attention.

Been wearing disposable foam plugs rated at over 30db reduction under a full face helmet for as long as I can remember but still isn't enough for that kind of noise. Relying on loud pipes to signal your whereabouts assumes drivers will actually hear it or be paying attention and relies on them to react appropriately. I ride as if nobody can even see me let alone hear me, and keep track of every driver in my immediate area at all times and proactively ride in anticipation of their worst possible move. When a driver becomes a threat, my reaction is to follow the plan I already had in place expecting them to :censored2: up in the first place.

Loud exhaust?
How many emergency vehicles with multiple LOUD sirens going at intersections, folks do not even hear or notice to get out of the way?
Food for thought...

I had a cherry 69 Malibu. My wife drove it to the Cities and the Temp light came on. She continued to drive because she didn't want to pull over. Needless to say she fried that engine. I had another 350 put in it and a few months later she slid on ice through an intersection and it was totaled out by another car.

I had a 68 Dodge Charger (exactly like the Dukes of Hazzards) but it had some electrical problems so I sold it (cheap). I should have kept that one also.

I should have also kept my 57 Chevy Pannel Truck and the 59 Chevy station wagon that the guy insisted I had to take with it. He couldn't find a title and at that time I had NO use for a station wagon. I sold it to a junk yard for 15 bucks. I drove it there. There wasn't a damn thing wrong with it. JUST the cats eye tail lights would be worth big bucks now days being they were off a station wagon and were splt in two parts to use with the tailgate. .
